"So what do you do?" asked Varun, grabbing a chocolate bar from his bag and taking a bite.
"Read", said Rhea, sliding the glasses back in position on her nose.
She looked up at him to see him roll his eyes and smirked. Varun caught her smirking and grinned. Then suddenly he looked a little thoughtful and blurted out without thinking, "Wow.. Your eyes..." He then shook his head and said, "Nothing."
"What?" she asked, looking at him intently.
"You should never wear glasses, your eyes are so beautiful", he said, matter-of-factly.
She blushed, which was a first for her. Then she held on to her senses before they slipped away and said, "And do what? Walk around, banging off the walls?"
"Haven't you heard of a little something called 'contact lenses'?" Varun asked her, sarcastically.
"Too expensive", said Rhea. "And not that good for health."
"They probably cost about as much as your nerdy Trelawney glasses do."
Rhea rolled her eyes. "Seriously? Trelawney glasses? How old are you?"
"What do you think?" He looked at her, stuffing the remaining chocolate bar in his mouth, grinning from ear-to-ear. He looked so handsome, with his perfect smile and deep, dark eyes, Rhea looked stunned for a minute. She then cleared her throat and said,"Seventeen."
He snorted loudly and said, "Thank you for your kindness, but I'm twenty-five."
Rhea sat up straight, surpised that he was just two years elder to her. "Really? Then why do you act like a seventeen year old kid?"
"Old habits die hard", he grinned. His smile was enchanting. Focus, Rhea, focus.
"Aren't you hungry?" asked Varun. He checked his watch. "It's 8 pm already. What time do you eat?"
Rhea replied, "8.15 pm."
Varun raised his eyebrows and asked curiously, "Why?"
"I used to have college till 6 pm, then I came home by 7 pm, freshened up by 7.15 pm, studied till 8.15 pm and then had dinner", Rhea said, not really paying attention to what she was blabbering.
"Oh Dear God", said Varun. "What a control freak", he whispered under his breath.
"I heard that."
They sat in silence for a while, Rhea reading with such concentration, Varun feared her eyes would burn her book. Her big, beautiful, attention demanding eyes... Arr. What was he thinking? He had a beautiful, sexy, hot girlfriend (although he had to admit she was a bit dumb and hot-headed: not a good combination). She loved him a lot. Kritika.
"Do you have a boyfriend?" Varun asked Rhea.
She peered at him through her glasses. "Why do you ask?"
"Because I want to steal you from him", he said sarcastically.
Her heart fluttered a bit, but she gained control of it and asked him angrily, "Excuse me, but don't you have a girlfriend?"
"Yeah, so?"
"So stop flirting with me."
Varun laughed out aloud and said, "So you never had a boyfriend?"
She looked at him, stunned. "What makes you say that? I did have a boyfriend, for your information."
"Lie. You can't even distinguish between a sarcastic comment and flirting. There is no way you have a boyfriend!"
"You're such a cocky jackass", Rhea glared at him. A handsome cocky jackass. No way. Handsome or not, he was still a cocky jackass.
"Ouch", laughed Varun. "Anyway, I'm hungry, and it's past 8.15 pm so I suggest you should eat some-"
The train suddenly jerked to a stop with a huge noise. Varun and Rhea looked at each other.
"Why are we stopping?" Rhea asked.
"Somebody must have pulled the chain", Varun answered, looking out the window.
"Did you?" asked Rhea. Varun rolled his eyes at her.
"I'll just go and check what's going on, you stay here", he told her.
"Alone?" Rhea sounded a little scared.
"Yeah", he said skeptically.
"I'll come with you", she said, getting up too.
"No you stay here, what about our luggage?"
"No I am coming, I don't care-"
"Just stay here-"
And then the lights went out.
