(One week later)
RHEA'S POV:
"Hey Mandira", I said, over the new phone and a new Sim card that I had purchased when I came to Pune. "I'll be home in another 20 minutes max."
"Rhea, come home quickly, please", Mandira begged me. Her boyfriend was going to come home for dinner today and I had gone out to do grocery shopping. Mandira was busy with her make-up and decorating the house.
I bet they were gonna do it today.
I sighed, "Yes, Mandira, I'll be there as soon as I can. Just a few more items left."
I hung up the phone and sighed. She was so lucky to be with the guy she loved.
I thought of Varun, and almost immediately pushed the thought out of my mind. It hurt a lot. It hurt to know that the guy I love, loved me back but didn't want to be with me. He chose to be with Kritika. Who was undoubtedly prettier than I was.
I had got an immense inferiority complex over the past one week. After Anish had left me at the station (I had begged him to let me board a train since I wanted to be left alone, and he had insisted on driving me all the way back to Pune, and had finally given up), I had called my parents using a payphone and had informed them of the sudden change of plans.
I didn't tell them what happened in Goa. I didn't want them worried over no reason for me. I was a grown up, I could handle myself.
The worst part was Varun had neither bothered to call nor text. Granted, he didn't have my new number, but there was always facebook. I hadn't contacted the band or Anish either, since talking to them would have brought the painful memories back. It was wrong and selfish on my part, but I was depressed.
I came home and fumbled with the keys, as Mandira told me she was going to go and take a bath.
As I opened the door, I was surprised to see that it was dark. I frowned, and I had to admit, I was a little scared too. I was pretty sure that there was electricity in the rest of the building.
I entered the living room slowly, and called out, "Hello? Mandira?"
I had to walk towards the switchboard, which was on the opposite wall. I started to remove my phone from my jeans pocket, when I heard a sound in front of me.
It felt like somebody was breathing.
I froze in horror, and called out again, in a hoarse voice, "H-hello? Who- who's there?"
"I see you are still scared of the dark", came a voice I had not expected to hear in my dreams.
I screamed out aloud and he chuckled before muffling my mouth.
"Don't scream like a maniac!" Varun whispered in my ear.
I had a sense of deja vu. I removed his hand from my mouth, and he switched on the light.
I saw him like I had never seen him before. He was wearing a formal light blue coloured shirt, which was ironed, his sleeves rolled up, and trousers with gleaming, shiny shoes. I took a deep breath as I fully admired him.
"Like what you are seeing?" He smirked as he caught me checking him out.
"What are you doing here?" I demanded, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Hello to you too", he said grinning.
"Get out of my house", I pointed towards the open door with gritted teeth.
"And you look immensely beautiful", he said, stepping towards me, his eyes traveling from top to bottom, checking me out. "I never really appreciated how beautiful you are."
