"Varun?" Rhea took a step back from Anish. "What are you doing here?"
Varun ignored her, bent down and began collecting the pieces of broken glass, all the while hissing as blood fell from his cut palm.
"Oh my God, you're bleeding!" Rhea ran towards Varun, leaving a dejected Anish behind. Varun however, didn't acknowledge her presence.
"Show me your palm", she commanded. Varun didn't react.
"Stop being a baby Varun, and show me your palm", said Rhea, trying to be calm.
Varun just stood up, and started walking away. Rhea was heart broken, but she ran after him nonetheless. She called his name but when he didn't respond, she finally jerked his arm and made him stop.
"What do you want, Rhea?" Varun asked, in a tired voice.
"Why are you ignoring me?" Rhea demanded, crossing her arms.
"Well why do you need me to give you company when you have the charming Anish Verma with you?" spat Varun, a little malevolently.
"What is the matter with you?" Rhea was frustrated. "Your girlfriend enters the scene and you start avoiding me, you listen to her be rude to me, and now you have a problem with her brother, who for your information, happens to be really nice!"
"Why don't you go back to him then?" Varun shouted. "Why don't you go and date his Royal Highness?"
"We would have dated, but we can't because I am so busy being in love with you!" Rhea shouted right back.
A dead silence followed afterwards as Varun tried to process what he had just heard and Rhea tried to wrap her head around the fact that she had finally told him how she felt. She felt dizzy.
"You- what?" Varun finally asked, slowly.
"You heard me."
Varun didn't know what to say. He so did not need this right now. He was doing all right with Kritika until he met Rhea. Rhea- who was sweet, caring, stupidly brave, down to earth and beautiful in her own way. She didn't have any demands in her life. She was happy and content. And then suddenly Kritika came back into his life and reminded him that he had a girlfriend whom he was bound to, and whom he could not leave. She loved him. He could not break her heart. But did he love her?
He knew at that moment that he loved Rhea. His wonderful Rhea. And he was pissed at Anish for trying to make a move on her. And here she was, telling him that she loved him.
He tried to make sense of the situation. He knew her for a day. He knew Kritika since high school. To be honest, he dated Kritika because she was the babe in school and he was the most popular guy. He went out with her because of peer pressure. He thought of leaving her a lot of times.
Especially when he found out about Kritika and Virat. He had overheard Bhavesh and Rhea whispering about it. And he respected Rhea for not telling Bhavesh that Kritika was his girlfriend. He respected her for not telling him about her cheating on him. He knew she didn't want to create problems between him and Kritika. Wasn't it too easy for her to think that if she told him the truth, he would leave Kritika and date her instead?
But she didn't do it. She believed in playing fair. And she wasn't the one to poke her nose in other people's business.
Yet here she was, waiting patiently for him to say something, and he couldn't even tell her that he loved her too. Because knowing Kritika, she wouldn't take him breaking up with her lightly. She would tend to create a drama. She tended to be suicidal a lot of times in high school when her mom left her dad to be with some other guy. That was when he decided he wouldn't leave her. She was too much to bear with, but she definitely didn't deserve that. He had obligations. The only thing he could do was create hatred in Rhea's heart against him. It crushed him to even think of that.
