I ROCK MYSELF BACK AND FORTH IN THE HAMMOCK. The last few weeks have flown by. There hasn't been a moment that I haven't thought about Rafe.
The wind gently blows past me. "Hey" Sarah says softly. I turn my head to her, "hey" I smile at her.
She sits across from me in the hammock. " how was dinner with the Kooks" Sarah sighs. "really really awful" she rocks us back and forth. I smile softly.
There is a silence. "Do you often think of Rafe?" Sarah asks. I nod slowly. "Almost every day" I look aside. "I just don't know what went wrong between you two"
" we didn't communicate. Our own problems were more important than each other's" there is another silence. "It's so okay" I tell her.
"but you belong together" Sarah wails softly. " if we really belong together then one day it will be all right, but that day is not today"
"there are my favorite girls" John b walks up with JJ. "there's a bonfire tonight and you're coming along" JJ throws a beer at me and Sarah.
"Hell yeah" I get up from the hammock. Kie and pope also arrive. Kie gives me a hug. She takes a beer from JJ. "hey that's mine"
"Now from me" she drinks the can in one go. JJ grabs a new one and opens it. "Pogues for life" he holds up his beer. "pogues for life" we tap each other beer.
"and no drama tonight" I say laughing. "Did you hear that too?" John B looks wide-eyed at the rest. " she said no drama " JJ looks at John B. "she's back guys" says Kie proudly.
I shake my head laughing. "as if I never say anything else" JJ lifts me up. " she's back" "JJ put me down" I say laughing. I hold on to him. He slowly puts me back down.
"I'll clear up the groceries" says John b. "I'll do it" I take them from him. "I'll help" JJ follows me.
I put the beer in the fridge. "there's a chance Rafe will be with the bonfire," JJ says softly. I stuff groceries in the fridge. "It doesn't matter" I continue.
"You know what topper told me" I say to JJ. "well?" "Rafe heard from Barry that we once kissed" JJ starts laughing very hard.
"You're not going to tell me he made a problem of that," JJ says with a laugh. I shrug my shoulders with a smile. "how long has it been 3 years"
"you abused the situation so much then, my father was missing and you kissed me" I smile back. JJ smiles. "If he says something about that, bring me along. You will explain to him that it didn't mean anything."
JJ puts a hand on my shoulder, "You're kind of like little sister" I throw a can of beer at him. "and my fucking best friend" he kisses the can. I give JJ a hug. "your my best friend too" I smiled at him.
