I know

I sat as I often did in my lord Cromwell's office as he went through the various notes from our recent meetings, I did my best to focus on the task at hand but… given the situation you couldn't blame me for being a little distracted.

I had been away for a few days. I had to ride away to wolf hall and back passing messages and information we needed. So we had a lot to go through from the meetings we had upon my return. I had missed her so badly, we had only managed a small snuggle in the stables before I left and only a sweet walk in the gardens together that week, I had missed her so and… badly wanted to be alone with her.

She knew I had been away and I think in some ways that was part of her… way of teasing me more so winding me up as she often did when her father was around knowing I wouldn't be able to do what I wanted. I couldn't help but glance, to the fireplace where y/n Cromwell's eldest daughter sat in her usual chair, an embroidery hoop in her hand working on something I didn't know what, she was only just a year younger than gregory and Cromwell had been keeping the thought of marrying her off at the back of his mind knowing she was getting to that age now, she sat in her usual grey dress not to unlike her mother's, her hair hidden below a sheer black fabric that cascaded from her headband she saw me looking up from her embroidery a moment her eyes flicking up meeting mine making me instantly nice my gaze to the floor trying to hide my blush she giggled slightly at my reaction and moved her dress a little I saw of course, as she tugged the skirt up just enough I could see her little shoes laced up tight, her stockings and her underdress I turned away quickly as I spotted her ankle and leg so prominently trying hard not to blush or react in anyway. She returned to how she was before still slightly giggling as her father looked up.

"Something you two wanted to involve me in?" He asks

"Oooohhh uhhhhhh no sir we uhh we weren't doing-"

"Rafe was just trying to work out my flowers papa" she smiled showing her embroidery and the half finished flowers with the design

"Ooohh roses. I thought they were sunflowers?" I said

"Well I need the space at the bottom for the thorns" she says

"Go on, y/n go find your brother" he told her so she nodded getting up gathering her things and heading out the door giving me a little flirty wave as she left

"If you would like to marry her rafe you have only to ask" he says as he worked

"Sir I uhhh…. Umm. How did you know?"

"You. Are not secretive" he says

"That's fair" I nodded "how long have you known?"

"Rafe. She's my daughter. Don't you think with my various spies, I would have kept one on her" he says "rafe I've known about your feelings for my daughter since you came here" he says and I was utterly shocked

"I do have a great affection for your daughter"

"I know, she talks of you often"

"She does?"

"Yes master Sadler. She does" he chuckled "I have known about your… glances. Your late evening walks. Your… stable kisses. And I allowed them to slide, accepting two young people living together, such things are… natural." He explained "y/n is at a very important age for a young lady"

"I know sir"

"And you yourself are getting much too old to have not yet formed your own household"

"I know sir"

"Well. Then it all works out perfectly doesn't it"

"Sir?" I asked a little confused

"You are my ward rafe, have been for many years I have faith in you likely more so then I even do in gregory. I treat you and even think of you, much as my son. I cannot take you into my family." He says "but, I would be more than honoured to have you as my son in law" he says "you may marry my daughter, either you can put it to her in your own way and time or I can go to her now and tell her of the news whichever you'd prefer"

"Sir I i- I can't thank you enough"

"Go on, I'll finish up today. Bring her some strawberries she favours them so" he explained

"I know sir. Strawberries and roses" I smiled getting my things and hurrying out the office.
