At the hospital
'How is he?' Hetty asked.
'Well, we got the bullet out, which is good. As for when he'll wake up, it's hard to say. He may be out for the entire night.' The doc replied.
'I'll stay with him for a while anyways. Thank you.'
Hetty sat on the couch, and began her lonely bedside vigil.
It wasn't the first time she had kept watch over Callen. There was the times he was sick, the time he was shot multiple times. But each time was harder then the last.
She knew in her heart he would eventually wake up, because they both refused to let bullets determine their fate. But each time it happened, she still couldn't help but fear just a bit that he wouldn't wake up.
She texted Granger to let him know she wasn't coming home that night, he said he was coming over anyway to bring a blanket over.
After close to an hour, she fell asleep, and dreamed of a time when she and Callen were younger.

'What's wrong, dear?' Hetty asked.
'I got into a fight at school. I know I shouldn't have, but this bully was picking on another student, and I couldn't take it anymore. I had to step in.' Callen replied.
'Well, good for you for standing up for another student. But, you really should learn to not get into so many fights. There is a time to fight, and a time to be peaceful. Knowing which of those times in different circumstances apply is key to surviving and earning respect.'
'How are you so wise?' Callen asked.
'(Chuckle), Years of experience.' Hetty replied. 'You're a good kid.'
'Thanks Hetty.'
'You're welcome, Mr. Callen.'
------------------
'Hello? Hetty?' Callen quietly said.
Hetty could barely hear him, but she woke up anyways.
'You're awake?'
'Apparently so. You really slept here all night?'
'Well, I felt like you should have someone to see when you wake up from surgery. And I was worried.' Hetty replied.
'Well, thank you. Means a lot.'
'You're welcome.'
