*Matt's POV*
I pull my phone out
5:15pm
Where the hell is she? I'll check her text one more time.
Matt, I'll be home at 4:30 the latest! Love you! Mac .xx
She is a half an hour late now. She's never late. She's always early. She knows I dislike lateness.
I shake my head. What if she's hurt? What if she got kidnapped? Maybe she hasn't called because her phone is dead. What would Mum and Dad do? What should I do? What if she never comes home? What if she ran away? Why would she run away?
At this point I'm shaking. I'm worried. I don't think I could live with myself if she doesn't come home. Then I hear the door open. I look out the window to see a car backing out of the driveway. Is that Liam's car? I saw it this morning. What the hell?
"Matt?" Makayla yells. Thank. God.
"Mac! Where the hell were you!?"
"Matt…"
"I was worried sick! Who drove you home? "
"Matt!"
"Why are you-"
"MATT! I'm fine! Just slow down within the questions!" She yells.
"Sorry." I murmur. "Just… Woah. What happened to you!?" I say seeing her bruised cheek and dry blood on her face that was attempted to be cleansed away.
"Nothing. I'm fi-"
"No! Don't give me that bull shit Makayla! What the fuck happened!? Who fucking did this to you!? Does this happen ofte-"
"Matthew please." she whimpers. I look at her. A single tear runs down her face. I grab her and pull her into a hug causing her to wince. I pull back and see her gripping at her stomach.
"What? Are you hungry?" I ask furrowing my brows.
"No." She says quietly.
"Then what is it?" I ask quietly looking at her eyes searching for an answer. Her eyes… When we were younger before Mum and Dad died… Those beautiful blue eyes --- I always envied, for I have the plain and simple brown. --- were always full of joy and always playful… But no they just seem… Hollow. Empty. Sad. Even… Broken.
She suddenly bursts into a fit of tears. Burring her head into my chest. The only other time Makayla has done this was at Mum and Dad's funeral. I hate seeing her like this. It hurts me.
"Shh-shh-shh. Makayla it's okay." I say in a calming tone. She sniffles and looks up at me.
"Matt?"
"Yeah?"
"Never mind." she says shaking her head and pulling away from me. As she begins to walk away. I catch her arm and she quickly pulls it away from me. I squint at her. Why did she pull away so quickly?
"Are you hiding something from me?" I ask quietly with a tad bit of offense.
"No." she replies quickly pulling at her sleeves.
"Yes you are. Don't try to lie to me! I know you Makayla! What the hell are you hiding from me!?" I start raising my voice as I go.
"Nothing you need to know!" She retorts.
"Tell me." I say.
"No."
"Why?"
"Because it isn't your business."
"You were just going to tell-"
"Maybe I chafed my mind Matt!" she says cutting me off and stomping to her room.
I slowly walk to the table and sit in a chair instantly putting my head in my hands. I've never seen Mac like this before. It worries me. I look at the clock.
5:45pm
I sigh and get up. Dinner time it is. How about some spaghetti? I nod and start to cook the spaghetti.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I'm almost nearly done cooking I hear small footsteps. I look up to see Makayla standing in the door.
"You hungry?" I ask quietly --looking down-- but loud enough for her to hear. She doesn't respond. I look back up. She is still standing there and now she's just kicking her feet around. "Mac?" I ask concerned. She ignores me.
I finish the spaghetti making sure she doesn't move when I turn my back. Once the two plates are made I walk over to her standing right in front of her.
"Do you really want to know what happened?" she asks mumbling.
"Of course I do Mac. I'm just… I'm trying… I'm trying to understand you but you don't tell me things." I say. Causing her to shake her head.
"I just… don't want to hurt you." She says her voice cracking.
"Why would you hurt me?"
"Because Matt I know how you are. Whenever I get hurt you always blame yourself. But Matt you have to understand that this…" she says pointing to her bruised face "Was not your fault."
"Okay."
"The reason I stayed at school today was because I had detention and-"
"You had detention? Why did yo-"
"Matthew… Let me finish." She says.
"I got detention because I spit on Reagan Barros. She was being rude. So Mr.Campbell gave me a red card. Reagan was still mad at me and when I was leaving the school she… Beat me up." She says saying the last part quieter than the rest. My jaw dropped.
"Reagan!?" I say in disbelief.
"Yes. Matt she acts nicer than she is. But don't say anything to James please…" she pleads. I'm so pissed at the moment but the only thing I can do is agree to not telling James. "Good." she mumbles begging to walk to the table.
"Mac." I say facing away from her.
"Yeah."
"Who drove you home?"
'Oh. You're never going to believe this. Liam Payne. He's so nice." She says giggling.
I nod. "I know."
"What?"
"I know. I've met him. We were in the same grade. We went to school together." I say walking towards the table although my appetite was totally gone.
"Oh. Cool." She says eating away.
For some odd reason, I feel that Makayla hasn't told me everything. Has she?
