*Matt's POV*

"Matthew. You're fired." My manager told me as I sit opposite him in his office. My breath hitched and I tried to form words.

"B-but sir. I-I'm trying to support my sister and I and save money for collage at the same time!" I say.

"I'm very sorry. You're a good worker and all. We just don't have the kind of money to pay all the employes at this time. We have to lay you off."

     "Sir I-"

"I'm sorry." he says shaking his head. I stand up and make my way out of his office. Now what was I supposed to do to get money for collage? How was I at the same time be able to pay rent, buy food, and support Makayla and I? Where else could I get a job?

I walked to the car unlocking it and getting into the drivers seat slamming the door and letting my head fall into my hands and leaning it to the steering wheel. I honestly couldn't hold it in anymore and I let a hiccup escape me bursting info tears. What was I going to tell Makayla?

'Oh… I got fired today.'

'We're going to starve because I have no money for food.'

'We can't live here anymore because I can't pay the rent.'

'I can't go to collage. I don't have the money.'

I shook my head and bit my lip wiping stray tears from my face. I took a deep breath and buckled my seatbelt. It was nearly one o'clock. Makayla would be getting out of school soon. Then I'd have to tell her that I was fired. Or maybe I won't. No she'd be suspicious because I'm never home until late on work days. I hardly ever see he because of my work schedule. I sighed again. The rain was letting up now and the sun was coming out a little. I smiled a tad at that. The sun and blue sky made me happy. Makayla's eyes were a unique shade of blue. Not exactly like the sky but more unique. Now those blue eyes are consumed by a grey color. I hardly ever see the blue anymore. I frowned again but kept my eye on the road.

I'd be home in about five minutes. It's now almost 1:30. I have about a half hour to an hour to plan weather I'd tell Makayla and if I am how I am going to. I sigh as I get closer to the driveway pulling in and parking the car. I took a deep breath and kept thinking.

'Should I tell her? Or should I lie?"

Our parents had always told us not to lie. But for some reason it was what I'd always end up doing.

*Makayla's POV*

Liam had offered to walk me home so I obviously accepted his offer. We were walking silently down the roads to my house. Not rushing but taking our time. It was kind of an uncomfortable silence but it was nice to just have someone accompany me.

"So… Uh… If you don't mind me asking… What is it like living with a brother and not having parents? I bet you guys want to rip each others heads off all the time yeah?" Liam asked looking at me with a puzzled expression.

I smiled "Not all the time. Matt… he's like a father to me. He always takes the blame when I get hurt."

"I probably would too if I were him."  I nodded. "Does he work?"

"Yeah… He works in this company that makes parts for cars. He's saving up for Uni." Liam nodded.

     "What is he going for?"

     "English teaching? Most likely."

"That's awesome. Zayn wanted t be an English teacher as well." Liam said a bit enthusiastic.
