"Sophie say hi to Demi!" Wilmer exclaimed into the camera of his MacBook as Sophie climbed into his lap and excitedly waved at Demi who began to wave back at her.
"Demi I see you!" She exclaimed through a fit of giggles, amused with the idea of FaceTime. Demi was practically beaming as she blew Sophie a kiss.
"I see you too baby girl. I miss you so much!" And it was true. The little time that Demi had spent with Sophie, she had grown extremely attached to her.
"I miss you more. Come see me and daddy!" Sophie poked out her pink bottom lip so Demi did the same.
"I'll try soon but my baby is still so young. She can't fly yet." If Demi really wanted to go and visit Wilmer, she could leave Lyric with Trey and fly out there but she didn't want to leave Lyric behind. It wasn't that she didn't trust Trey to properly take care of her while she was gone, just as her mother, she didn't want to be away from her at all. She had a hard time showering without the baby monitor on the counter right next to her shower.
"How old is she now? Two months?" Wilmer questioned as Sophie became preoccupied with one of his Wilmer's office supplies on his desk. It didn't matter that Demi was on her computer screen anymore. Her attention had shifted so quickly and it made Demi laugh because she knew that she would be dealing with that from Lyric as well.
"Three months. She's napping right now but she's already grown so much. And she has so much hair! I really wish you could come and visit us, or I could come down there," Demi said, propping her head up with her elbow as Wilmer released a sigh. He couldn't visit because of his job and she couldn't visit because Lyric was too young to fly.
"How are things with you and the baby daddy?" Wilmer asked in an amused tone as Demi laughed while playing with the ends of her hair.
"It's good. We're just taking every day as it comes." Ever since his relapse, Trey had started going to therapy twice a week instead of once a week and he was getting better at talking to her when he was stressed out. He was letting her bear the burdens just like she told him that she would and Trey was recovering well because of it.
"Well that's good. As long as you're happy and healthy and safe and-"
"Wilmer...I'm good. But thanks for your concern. I should get going because Lyric should be waking up from her nap soon," Demi said as she checked what time it was. The best thing about Lyric was that she stuck to her schedule like clockwork. She didn't wake up during the night as often as she used to and it was becoming easier to take care of her.
"Okay...I hope I'll see you soon nena. Take care of yourself," Wilmer replied as Demi nodded before saying her goodbyes and ending the call. She closed her MacBook and exited her room, going in search of Lyric and Trey. She looked around the entire house but ultimately she found them in the theater, but they weren't watching a movie. They were watching a collection of Trey's concerts and instead of interrupting, Demi stood in the doorway and listened to Trey drone on about the songs that he performed and what they meant and skipping past the inappropriate ones because he didn't want to taint her innocence. Demi almost giggled when he said that, but then him performing Fumble for the first time started to play and she watched him smile.
"I wrote that song for your mom. She doesn't know it now but I wanna marry her. I love her and it's the right thing to do. We're gonna be together for a while, you know that right? We make each other better and our love is what created you," Trey explained with a look of pride on his face as he stared down at his daughter who was half asleep. He read in some parenting book that Demi had grabbed from Barnes and Noble that it was good to talk to babies all the time, even if they didn't respond or you felt as if they couldn't understand you. He had done that a lot with Lyric. He loved talking to her about anything and everything. She would just stare back at him with those uniquely colored eyes of hers as if she understood everything that he was saying.
