"Dems?" Demi turned around at the sound of the soft voice and nearly dropped her jaw in shock, because standing right in front of her was Dallas, her older sister that she missed more than anything.
"Dallas? What are you doing here?" Demi questioned, taking an unsure step towards her sister. Demi was never mad at Dallas. It was Dallas who had been mad at her for seemingly throwing her life away for some guy that didn't even care about her. And being the emotionally manipulated person that she was, Demi had just ignored her sister and continued on living the exact way that she didn't want to. But she wanted them to get past that. God, did she want them to get past that.
"Trey called me. He told me that you missed me and even though you wouldn't say it, you wanted me here to meet my niece." Dallas's eyes flickered over to Lyric who was sucking on her thumb with her head buried in her mother's chest. There was almost a sense of adoration in her eyes, as if she was in love with the idea of having a niece and already loved the baby that Demi held in her arms
"I give you a lot of shit Demi and I know that I do. But it's only because I love you and I don't want you to make the same mistakes that mom did. You understand where I was coming from, right?" Dallas asked, a look of uncertainty clouding her earlier admiration. Dallas had never been uncertain or unsure about anything before. She always took a stance and stuck by it in complete confidence, even when she knew that she was wrong.
"You've always been like the mom that I wish I had. All differences aside Dallas. I missed you," Demi breathed out. There was no reason to go back over everything that had been done or said that was offensive and wrong. What problem would that solve? All she wanted was to make up for the lost time with her sister because Dallas had been like a mom to her when her mom couldn't.
"I missed you too. And I'm guessing this is my niece. What's her name?" Dallas looked at Lyric again who was fighting off her sleep. Demi smiled and gently turned her around, causing her to release a whine.
"Lyric April Neverson," Trey piped in. Demi almost forgot that he was there and had gotten Dallas out here for her. She would have to remember to thank him later.
Demi could've sworn that she saw Dallas grimace at her last name but she let it go because Dallas would just have to accept the fact that she had a baby with Trey and she would be linked to him forever whether they were together or not.
"She's so adorable Demi! She has green in her eyes just like me! I can't wait until she's old enough to do pageants. She'll win everything, she looks like a little doll!" Dallas gushed as Demi slowly transferred Lyric into her arms. She waited five seconds to see if she would start screaming and crying like she normally did but Lyric was perfectly fine sucking on her thumb and looking up at Dallas in curiosity.
"Why isn't she screaming at you? I don't remember you being good with kids," Forrest joked as he walked up and joined them, laying his eyes on Dallas and keeping them there for a while before he looked away and cleared his throat.
"Because you're not affectionate at all Forrest," she hissed with an underlying bitterness in her tone. Demi would have to ask her about that later. But personally, she didn't care about Dallas's drama. She was just happy to have her sister back.
After everyone had finally left the house, way after the sun went down, Dallas had stayed behind because Trey insisted that he didn't want her to have to pay for a hotel and it gave her and Demi more time to bond. But Demi could bond with Dallas later. Right now, she just wanted to thank Trey for bringing her out here and express how proud she was of him for not smoking earlier when temptation was all around him.
"Shouldn't you be with your sister?" He questioned as he came out of the shower and Demi was sitting on his bed. They were still on that whole "separate bedrooms" thing.
