CHAPTER 12 - VERSUS ZOOM

TIMESKIP – 1 HOUR LATER

CORTEX, S.T.A.R. LABS

Speed walked into the Cortex and saw a clearboard full of calculations. Trace was banging his head against it while Pearl was groaning

Speed: "Wow, so any ideas?"

Trace stopped banging his head and looked at Speed

Trace: "Well, the best plan we've come up with so far is to set off a nuclear warhead next to the town's electrical grid, so..."

Speed: "Well, we're not gonna do that. Um...I think I thought of something though."

TRACE'S WORKSHOP

The team was down in Trace's workshop asking Alex questions

Speed: "Tell me everything that you know about Trace's doppelganger."

Alex: "Reverb."

Speed: "What were Reverb's powers on your Gaia?"

Alex: "He could tap into the multi-dimensional energies between Gaias. He could see through dimensions. Find breachers, like Ramon."

Speed looked at Trace: "I mean, we... we saw Reverb do more than that though, right? I mean, we saw him shoot vibrational bursts out of his hands. Really painful ones."

Pearl was confused: "What do you mean?"

Speed explained: "Reverb had the ability to somehow manipulate that multi-dimensional energy."

Alex: "What's your point, Allen?"

Speed sighed: "My point is if his powers are linked to the energy that ties together the multi-verse...if he can manipulate it..."

Pearl: "Then he can open a breach to any Gaia he wants."

Speed nodded: "Exactly. And if Reverb could do it..."

Trace finished the sentence: "I could do it too."

Speed: "Trace, I think the way back to Gaia-602 is you."

BREACH ROOM

Trace, Pearl and Speed were in the breach room. Trace had his paw out with his eyes closed, focusing

After a few moments, he put his paw back down and sighed

Trace: "I got nothing."

Speed: "Try again, okay?"

Pearl whispered to the Jolteon: "Speed, what if he can't do it because he thinks he can't do it?"

Speed whispered back: "He can do it though."

He called out to Trace: "You can do it. It's gonna work, okay."

Trace took a deep breath and held out his paw once more. He waited a few moments and nothing happened. The Luxray put it back down and sighed

Speed: "Maybe we're just not in the right place."

Trace: "Or maybe I'm just not the right man for the job. Right? Let's go."

He started walking away

Speed called out to him: "Trace."

But the Luxray was already gone

Pearl turned to Speed: "I'm sorry, Speed."

She followed Trace out of the Breach Room leaving only Speed to his thoughts

He looked at the breach platform and sighed: "It's gonna work."
