Thirteen.

"Belle, can I ask you a favour?", Tom irrupted into my bedroom on Thursday night while I tried to catch up on my Musical Theory reading.

"What's up?", I said putting my book down and inviting him to come in.

"Turns out our first Freshmen's activity is coming up and we could really use the extra help", he said already looking at me with puppy eyes.

"What are you organizing?", I questioned him curiously.

"We're hosting the Wheel of Pep event. It's like a wheel of fortune that you have to roll and carry out whichever action it lands on", he rolled is eyes as it wasn't a big deal. "Thing is at the same time we're gonna be doing a pie sale to gather some money and since Mindy is sick... I know this is all on short notice but I could really use your help", he pleaded.

"Alright, alright. But you still haven't told me what I gotta do", I laughed, agreeing on whatever it was he needed me for.

"I just need you to take care of a stand and sell a bunch of pies".

"Sure, how hard can it be?".

~

"You didn't tell me I had to take on the stand with James", I hissed at Tom while he walked me to my stand Saturday at midday. "What are you guys on about?".

"Hey, he hasn't been that bad towards you lately", he tried to convince me that this was a good idea.

"You guys are so dead...".

"Hey, Tommy boy! Belle", James greeted us once he saw us.

He'd already put up the stand and I had to admit: It didn't look bad. He'd separated the pies according to flavor and he'd even put up signs with the different prices.

"O-kay. I'll leave you guys to it. Have fun", Tom smiled at us one last time before taking off to do whatever it was he did as a counselor.

With nothing better to do, I started cutting same lengthen ribbons to tie the different flavored pies with a color each, when James unexpectedly came up to me and started doing this second task all by himself.

"Where are the other boys?", he tried to make conversation with me.

"Reece and Charlie were still at the house when I left. They said they're gonna come down later. Casey, Barcs and Jake are somewhere over there waiting for the Wheel of Pep to start", I pointed towards them. "Over there are Luke, Anabel and Olivia", I pointed in a different direction. "Chris, I have no idea".

He chuckled at this last comment.

"What's so funny?", I furrowed my eyes in confusion.

"Must be an Irish thing. You know how they say one can never find the leprechaun that hides the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow? Chris, seriously has to be one of those", he couldn't help fully smiling at his own joke.

"What are you on? Care to share, please", I said continuing to work.

"There you go again", he rolled his eyes. "Are you ever not uptight?".

"Okay, 1. I'm not uptight", I said putting down the ribbon fabric I'd just been about to cut. "2. I only seem to be like that with you. And 3. What's with the change of mood? Last week you couldn't even see me", I snapped at him.

I'd been meaning to ask him this for a couple of days now. But a part of me was expecting him to go back to his usual self. What I thought was his usual self.

He was about to reply when a couple cheers from the crowd caught our attention: the Wheel of Pep had just started and everyone seemed to be having a great time.
