Fifteen.
"Hey, is it okay if I invite Anabel and Olivia over?", Luke asked us as we were all in the play room hanging out on Saturday night.
"Yeah, Luke. Go ahead. Invite people to your friends house", Jake sarcastically replied as he beer bumped Casey.
"You can always say it was me who invited them Lukey", I told him from my spot on the couch.
"I'll go text Olivia", Reece said excitedly.
"Why don't we go looking for them instead?", Luke proposed and one second later he and Reece were seen exiting the room.
"Y'all better come on time for dinner!", I yelled after them.
"Yeah, about that...", Charlie said looking up from the football game they were all watching.
"Woman, go make me a sandwich", Barclay teased from behind his beer can.
"Alright, alright. I get an indirect when I see it", I said getting up. "Tommy-boy!", I exclaimed when I got to the kitchen and saw him sitting at the table working on something.
"What do you want?", he laughed without looking up from his papers.
"Wanna help me cook dinner?", I invited him to tag along.
"As fun as that sounds... I really have to get this finished", he refused.
"Fine. I'll do it myself", I whined. "I don't know why I don't order something and pretend to have cooked it...", I said opening the fridge and taking out all the right ingredients for a lasagna.
"Because you have no money", Tom made fun of me from across the room.
"Shut it. You have to work you", I said getting started on my lasagna.
I was a quarter way through when Tom got up and came towards me. I actually thought he was going to help me but my fantasy bubble was soon bursted when I saw him go get a glass of orange juice. A second later, James irrupted into the room.
"How's the game going?", Tom asked him.
"1-0, Man United win baby", James proudly responded.
"Oh, I gotta go see the recap", Tom responded frantically already making his way to the play room.
"I thought you had to work!", I yelled after him, annoyed.
"Need any help?", James finally spoke, leaned against the kitchen counter sipping on his beer.
"You can grill the cheese if you want", I said not expecting him to actually put down his bottle, look for the griller and start doing as he was told.
"You didn't look like the cooking type of person when I first met you", he told me while we both worked.
We did that a lot together lately. I wondered if this was some mischievous set up from the boys' part to get us to get along. It was working. I had to give them credit for it. I never thought it'd be possible.
"You didn't seem the kitchen helper kind of person either", I teased looking up at him.
He didn't look at me directly, but he smiled anyway.
Out of nowhere, a group of people talking were heard in the distance. It was Luke, Reece, Anabel and Olivia who'd just arrived to the house all together.
"Something smells good", Reece said coming into the kitchen.
Olivia and Anabel almost stopped dead in their tracks when they saw me cooking with James.
