THE FOLLOWING DAY YOU WOKE UP not to the sweet sound of Mia's laughter but the wrath of Maddy's anger. Not even a minute had passed since you've been awake, and Maddy was already busy throwing your bag's contents on the bedroom floor. She was frantically searching for any indication of your infidelity.

"Where is it." The brunette mumbled to herself, anger heavily laced in her tone. She pushed and tossed your various belongings as she continued her search. You took a deep breath to steady the heavy boil of annoyance that was threatening to spill inside you.

"What are you looking for, Maddy?" You said with the calmest tone you had. A voice you usually used on Mia when she refused to listen to you and Maddy. Although you spoke, the woman on the floor stayed devoted to her search as she ignored your question.

Having enough of her unreasonable rummage, you staggered towards her. Standing right beside her, you watched your wife wildly search through your bag.

"Maddy." You said with your voice raised slightly higher. No answer again. You sighed deeply. Your annoyance slowly turned into anger as you asked again, fully raising your voice.

The brunette stilled her movements as she dropped what she held in her hand. For a minute, Maddy just sat there on the bedroom floor with her head down, not moving nor making a sound. It took everything in you not to lash out at her as your anger shifted to an all-time high.

You closed your eyes as you felt the rage course through every vein in your body, effectively making your body heat up. Slowly your eyes flickered open, and finally, Maddy was looking at you. She gazed up at you through her lashes as a few tears spilled through them. Her once purity-free face was now tainted with dried-up tears.

"Are you, are you okay?" Maddy just stared at you again, tears freely falling from her eyes. You walked towards her and touched her shoulder, encouraging her to talk, but she flinched from your contact.

Fuck this, you thought. There wasn't any time for this. Even if you did want to stay and talk it out with the brunette, work wouldn't allow it. College students wouldn't wait for anyone.

So, you took your bag from the floor, collected everything Maddy had just earlier thrown around earlier, and left. She'd be okay. At least you hoped so.

When you arrived on campus for your first class, everyone was busy doing their own thing. It seemed none of your students were in a productive mood this morning.

You couldn't blame them, though. You were feeling precisely the same way, so you let them have ten minutes of free time before taking charge. Soon, the ten minutes were up, and you got ready to stand up and teach.

When you were about to open your mouth, a woman came bustling through the doors, making quite an entrance. The scent of strawberries riddled the room as she strolled in. You looked back at the latecomer, and blue eyes stared back at you. She had that same look she'd had when you woke up next to her that morning.

"Cassie- I mean, Ms?" You boggled your mind for her last name, but you came out short. Her name and her whole existence weren't something you recalled. Too many years of countless students happened to do that to you.

"Howard. Cassandra Cassie Howard." She said with the sweetest voice that sounded so welcoming. You stared at Cassie and watched as a tiny blush formed from her neck up to her cheeks. The little voice in your head warned you as you suddenly remembered what Cassie looked like underneath all those clothes.

You instantly shook your head, and Cassie visibly deflated a bit. The warm smile on her disappearing as she probably thought your head shake was a sign of disapprovement.

"I'm sorry... for being late. I just was waiting on someone important to reach out to me. And I guess I lost track of time." She explained. Suddenly, everyone in the room got quiet. It wasn't every day a student would verbally be as honest as she was, especially when it came to something as simple as being late.

You quickly nodded before turning your back on her, effectively making sure Cassie was out of your sight. The guilt of dealing with Maddy and a girl who was probably crushing real hard on you proved to be a little too much. You cleared your throat as you clasped your hands together.

You felt the overwhelming situation consume you the more you thought about it, but now was no time to break down. There was a class filled to the brim with students desperately trying to learn something without the possibility of falling asleep. So you took a breath, cleared your head, and went right back around.

"Alright, class. I'm Y/N Y/LN. Call me by my first name, last name. I don't mind. Welcome to English Lit."

You desperately tried to focus on class, but knowing that Cassie was in your classroom made it challenging to teach. Every so often, she'd bit her lower lip unconsciously. You noticed it every single time she did it. Her little mannerisms you've memorized quite effectively. She even did the twirling thing Mia did to her hair when she got bored.

Just as quickly as the thought formed, it vanished just as fast. Mia. Your daughter. You can't be comparing a student you just fucked to your own daughter. The achy, itchy feeling of guilt started to make its way back to your system. Falling victim to your own mind's taunting, you dismissed the class early, leaving them with an assignment they could do in the meantime.

There was no way you could teach that class with Cassie in the front row. You had to suddenly devise a seating arrangement for the class. Here's to hoping they'll actually follow it.
