WHEN YOU TOOK a hold of the car door, you felt heavy, too heavy. A deep burden had nestled itself inside your chest, sitting too painful. With a swing of the door, you got out. You gazed at your house, although it never did quite feel like a home. If it weren't for Mia, you didn't want to continue living in this goddamn house.

With each step you took, you felt the onset of tears threatening to spill out, like all the pain you've endured since Maddy came home with another person's child inside her.

"It was never supposed to be like this." You whispered to yourself as you neared the front door. You felt a lone tear make its way down your cheek. Finally, you stepped foot inside your house. There you heard Maddy's laughter echo from the living room through the foyer.

You took a step towards the living room. "God, please, don't let this be true." You muttered again. The emotion lodged in your throat started to hurt, yet you swallowed it. You would not give Maddy the satisfaction of watching you break down.

Another step. "Please, please, please." You pleaded to no one.

Another step and another. And then suddenly, you were in the living room. Maddy's back was turned to you as she sat on the couch watching Big Mouth. You listened in to her laughter, so carefree, so reckless. Good for her.

It was always like this, her being wholly okay while you fell apart because of her insensitivity.

"Maddy." You croaked out. When Maddy turned around, she seemed glowing and smiling brightly at you. The smile you craved to see all those years made its way to her cheeks, even reaching her eyes. So beautiful, but so toxic.

"Baby!" Maddy screamed out and ran towards you. As soon as she got near you, she flinched. "You're crying."

You instantly reached for your face, and a few tears were spiraling down. Maddy took your face in her hands, and she reached in and kissed both your eyelids as she used to when you'd fight and still tried to make up.

"What's wrong?" She asked to purely you almost forget about the reason for your tears.

"Maddy. Look at me." Maddy latched her gaze to yours. Her eyes were brimming with so much emotion. It was as if she was opening up to you again.

You looked away from her, unable to take her gaze anymore. You stared at the tv instead, watching little Andrew. "Are you pregnant, Maddy?"

Maddy's hands moved away from you as if she just got burned. She swallowed so hard you heard it. "Don't lie, please."

You finally got the courage to look back at her, but she refused to meet your gaze. "Why, Maddy? I don't get it." The tears finally broke free. You didn't even bother wiping them away at this point. "Was I not enough? Huh, Maddy?"

You started to pace back and forth, waiting for her reply, but she wasn't giving any. Instead, she kept her head down, her hands at her sides. Sadness soon turned to anger as you screamed, "Fuck you, Maddy!"

Finally, Maddy talked. "Quiet! Mia might hear you!" She screamed, and you rolled your eyes.

"Please, Maddy, you never scream when Mia's home. You might be a fucking horrible wife, but you're not a horrible mother." You laughed a humorless laugh. "Sometimes, I wish you could be both. Jesus is it so hard for you to love me! Why the hell did you marry me if all you're going to do is fuck a guy behind my back?!"

Maddy screamed back, "Because- because I was fucking scared! I'm not gay. When I met you, I thought it would just be a one-time thing. Then you had to propose. My mom and dad love you! What the fuck was I supposed to do?!"

You laughingly cried through the revelation as you shook your head. "You fucking say no! You don't fucking string a person along for a life they find to be hellish. We could have been happy, Maddy? Why didn't you just fucking- fucking. Ugh! Fuck this!"

You quickly turned around and tried to walk out of the living room to the foyer. "Fuck you!" You screamed so loudly you were sure the neighbors could hear you. You didn't care anymore, and Mia wasn't around anyway.

Maddy ran towards you, desperation evident in the way she ran. "No, please! Please, Y/N, I won't see him anymore-"

You suddenly turned to Maddy; an accusatory finger pointed towards her. "I fucking knew it! You fucked him again, didn't you?" You grimaced. "No, I don't want to fucking know."

Maddy suddenly dramatically dropped to the ground. You rolled your eyes. Her eyes stared up at you through her lashes. You shook your head in disbelief, and that's all it took for Maddy to sob. It was painfully loud, and the most emotion you've ever heard came out of Maddy.

"Please Y/N. I'll make this work. You can do anything you want, but please don't leave me! I won't care. Fuck anyone you want." As she said it, she sobbed harder.

"I think I'm done, Maddy. I can't-"

"You can't fucking leave Mia and this one." Maddy gestured to her stomach. She wasn't showing yet.

"I am never going to fucking leave Mia, but you, Maddy! We're through. Done! And for that kid, why don't you talk to your boyfriend about it."

And with that, you stormed out of the house towards your car. You walked so quickly and were already in your car when Maddy was just beginning to get out of the front door.

"Y/N! Don't leave me, please, baby!" Maddy's muffled scream sounded through the driveway, but you didn't care. You finally felt a bit lighter. There were more you wanted to say, but you couldn't stay in there any longer.

When you originally got in the car, you didn't have a specific destination in mind, but suddenly you found yourself in Cassie's house. Fuck.
