After a while of dealing with villains, everyone went to the nearby festival going on. There, they had a band performing, booths handing out gifts, and fun activities like painting. Ribbon, Candy, Rose, Backpack, and Medal went to the concert, Orchid went over to the painting area, and the rest headed to the booths.
Backstage, the band manager, Flashlight, was having a phone call with the vocalist, Sandglass. "What do you mean you can't get here?! You should have told us about that meeting beforehand." "I'm sorry, they changed the meeting date without prior notice! I didn't think I would be busy with my internship today." Flashlight was annoyed at how one of his band members couldn't come to the festival, but refrained from arguing. "Alright, you can have your meeting. I'll see if I can get someone else to do it, bye now." Flashlight went onstage to make an announcement. "Due to an abrupt schedule change, Sandglass will unfortunately not be able to sing at our summer festival. However, we will try our best to find a substitute for her so the issue doesn't ruin the concert." That was when Ribbon took her chance. "I can do it!," she exclaimed excitedly. Flashlight thought for a moment. Since nobody else was willing to do it, and none of the instrument players were prepared, he decided to let Ribbon try. He knew this wasn't very practical of him, but he did it anyway. He took Ribbon backstage, and talked with her. "Do you know what you're doing?" "Yes." "Why do you want to do this?" "I'm skilled in singing and music overall, so I may as well do it!" Flashlight handed her a paper with the lyrics and notes, and sent her onstage. Ribbon was nervous. This was the first time she had performed at a big event since 6th grade, and it had been long since then. However, she persevered, and let the festival's music show go on. She practiced for a bit. Once the show was done, the crowd cheered for her. "I knew you could do it!" Rose especially cheered her on. Ribbon got off the stage, and thought back to when she helped Rose when she needed it.
A month later, Flashlight called Sign to contact Ribbon about the band. "Hello, this is Sign speaking. Who is this?" "This is Flashlight, the one who managed the concert for that town festival last month. I'd like to talk to Ribbon, please." Sign got Ribbon to the office and handed her the phone. "Hiya, Ribbon speaking!" "Hello. Unfortunately it seems that Sandglass quit the band yesterday due to unforeseen circumstances. I liked how you performed at the Starlight Summer Festival last week. I know this is quite random, but would you like to take her place? None of the instrument players can fill in for her, they've no good singing experience. We can't keep going without a vocalist, otherwise they risk disbanding and we'd lose our jobs!" Ribbon just couldn't pass up the opportunity, and agreed. "Of course I will!" "Thanks for filling in, you just saved the band by saying yes." Ribbon was officially part of the Starlight Project, being the new vocalist. She went to her room, looking at her Starlight Project poster and processing the fact that she just joined her favorite band. "I can't believe I just did that," she thought to herself. "I just joined the band I've always been a fan of." She was looking forward to the concerts that she'd perform in. She could make new friends, and do something she'd remember. She was excited about what she could do. Even if she hadn't performed in years until the festival, she was still passionate about music.
