Flip: Um... are you okay?

Me: No.

Flip: What exactly are you doing?

Me: Frantically reloading the page until this book has 112 reads and then going to find whoever viewed it the 112th time.

Flip: Is this really a good idea? I mean, how are you going to find out who it was that viewed it the 112th time?

Me: I'll get to the specifics later.

Flip: Whatever. You should probably write.

Me: Fine.

JADE POV

It's all my fault.

Lin gave me that thing, it's all my fault.

I shouldn't even have it.

"Jade," said Riolu Girl(yeah, I still haven't really bothered to learn her name), "You have the amulet. Lin gave it to you. You need to give it back."

"I don't have it." Okay I tried to say that, but I think we both know that under these circumstances I was only able to say "I" followed by 2 seconds of unnecessary mumbling.

Riolu Girl blinked as if she was trying to decide whether I said something and she didn't hear or I just said nothing. "I, um. I did not hear you."

I tried again. "I don't have it. I threw it away because I didn't envision a situation where I would need it."

Pause.

Riolu Girl fell silent.

She looked away.

It felt like an eternity before she said something.

"Jade," said Riolu Girl, "I used to have a brother."

Used to?

She continued. "My father, in setting the town on fire... my brother could not escape. I tried to save him, but I could not. We all tried to save him. But we simply could not."

This is all very dramatic.

She continued. "He died. Or... we thought he had died. He was gone from this world, but not from the next."

The... next?

She continued. "My family was never in the best position. My mother had to steal just so we could survive. And one thing she stole was that amulet. But... she could not trade it. No one would accept it."

Does she know that this is a little bit unnecessary at this moment?

She continued. "One day, however, a mysterious Pokémon with the power to see the dead came and saw that my brother's soul persisted. It lived within the amulet. And my father... he wanted the amulet so our family could be whole again."

Why do I need to know this?

She continued. "But you threw it away. You threw my brother's soul away. He is gone forever now, and there is nothing I or any of us can do! And I promise, that no matter how much you may try to survive, there is no way I can let you live for an act such as this!"

She charged at me. I dodged just in time. "What? Now you want to kill me?" I asked.

She charged again. "No. I do not intend to kill you. Just to harm you enough to where you cannot function as a normal Pokémon. Nothing too serious."

I dodged again. "That is very much serious!"

She charged again. "Then you should have thought before you got rid of my brother!"

I wasn't able to dodge. I was knocked down. I couldn't get up.

"Now," she said, "You have a choice to make. Either-"

"STOP! THIS IS TOO MUCH!"

That wasn't me. And it wasn't Riolu Girl.

We recognized the voice.

We looked over in the direction of the voice.

And there she was, standing there, anger in her eyes.

A small and seemingly innocent Alolan Vulpix.

LIN POV

"STOP! THIS IS TOO MUCH!"

Lucy and Jade stopped fighting after that.

"You both aren't doing any good for yourselves by fighting!" I screamed.

"But he-" Lucy began.

"But he made an honest mistake! Why are you trying to murder my best friend, instead of giving him the chance to fix this?" I said. "Now, Lucy. What did you mean when you said that no one would accept the amulet?"

Lucy stopped for a second. "Well, it was not so much that no one wanted the amulet. It was that if we had given it to someone, it would appear in our home the next day, no matter what we had done. It was as if my brother would only accept us."

I thought for a second. "If that's true, then why didn't it go back to you when I took it, or when Jade threw it away?"

Lucy tried to answer my question. "I... It's... I... don't know."

"Exactly!" I said. "So your brother wouldn't allow anything to happen to his amulet without a reason, probably. He has to be somewhere now, but where?"

"Shattered into a million pieces, most likely," added Wes, unhelpfully.

"SHUT UP WES THIS DOESN'T INVOLVE YOU!" I screamed. He backed off from the conversation. "Now, Lucy? Answer the question."

Lucy stopped as if she was thinking. "Lin, I've told you. I've told you everything I remember."

"Then remember something new! Maybe you just need to find the right trigger to remember it. But I'm sure things will come back to you eventually," I said.

"It's-" Jade tried to say.

He didn't get to say much more.

Because he fainted again.
