I LOVE CARNIVALS.

The annual carnival was the peak of my year. Even when I was in my emo phase I attended that carnival, even without friends I had the time of my life.

The smell of funnel cakes and happy chatter made my insides bubble up with happiness, the enjoyment of the Ferris wheel and seeing the stars twinkle made everything a bit more enjoyable.

So when I saw that poster of the annual Chili contents ( which the Jacob's always wins. ) and the carnival I squealed with excitement.

But the only problem was,

Fezco.

I seriously pulled a horny teenager girl's move, and I was regretting it a lot. I don't know what made me do that, was it the devil on my shoulder?

And when we were in English Maddy told me that he would be running a pretzel standing up d, with his little brother Ashtray. Which made things even worse because I always bought a cinnamon pretzel at the carnival.

So my best option was to avoid him all things necessary.

Sitting on Rue's bed listening to her rant, I typed vastly on the computer. I forgot to type my essay and since it was due tomorrow I had to come up with something good enough to make my teacher think I put effort into it.

"I don't know man, it's just like Jules is—is obsessed with this guy that isn't even probably real!" She ranted, walking back and forth across the room.

I kinda understand where Rue was coming from, Jules has been obsessing over this random dude name Tyler.

And honestly—he's probably a catfish. What straight guy goes on a day dating app? That's a red flag itself.

Feeling her jump next to me, the bed creaking as she let out a dramatic sigh.

I think that Rue has been sober for a bit, which is good.

I continued to type at an impressive paste, letting out a small yawn. Rue grabbed the top of the computer shutting it.

Turning towards her, "What was the reason?"

"Because you have been literately writing for an hour, who even does that?"

"People who care about school,"

"Lame." She scoffed, rubbing a hand over her face. I could tell that being sober was hard for her, she wanted to do drugs badly but was trying to build a wall up in front of that urge.

I stared at her, running a hand through her hair I brushed out, all the knots and tangles annoying me for no reason.

"You're doing good Rue," my voice was soft, her doe brown eyes looking up at me with a gentle smile.
