—CHAPTER 9
I just wanna see you shine
|| 🌅 ||

Trailing her fingers back and forth on her arm, the hair rising back and down on her jewelry-covered limb. Her teacher's monotone voice faded out of her ear, the world fading by her slowly blinked eyes. Life had suddenly—badly gone boring.

So much had happened in the past weeks and it just went down, and down, until the excitement that filled her bubbly heart sunk. With a sigh she slowly trudged her head down to the plastic binder, sleeping about to wrap around her body like the blankets every night.

And with that, she closed her eyes about to enter a deep slumber until, "Maddy, you're late." The short Hispanic girl stumbled through the room, black shades on and a cheap blue jacket, she looked....different.

Valentine had been sitting next to Maddy for the past few weeks and got to know the girl quite well, she knew that Maddy was fabulous. Like every single day she stepped into the school, it was a runway, so this behavior and outfit choice was well...uncommon.

Giving her a small side-eye, making sure not to judge too much since she had on a fitting pair of grey sweatpants, a random graphic tee, and busted-up converse. "Hey," she whispered, giving her a small smile.

Which she didn't return.

Turning back to the board that related to Shakespeare and fixing upgrades for the upcoming end of the quarter, her thoughts scrambled from her chaotic year.

She missed Fezco, they hadn't talked for weeks and it honestly was getting to her head. And the white powder or green plant she hadn't used for the time being made her jitter and even get to the point where she cried in the girl's bathroom for the urge.

Drugs got her through the day, it helped her push through the struggles of school, drugs were her therapy, and she needed to speak to them immediately.
But the problem was, her dealer and she was now enemies. And the other one was enemies with her enemy.

Not to mention the fact that her sister caught her doing drugs, resulting in her parents finding out, leaving her with an empty room and the whole entire family knowing about her disappointments.

Life lost a whole lot of meaning once people got tired of you, and she began to get tired of her own self. The darkness of her eyes swallowed her body into one, the bubble she formed getting larger and larger until the only thing she could focus on was her numb body.

Tugging at the curls of her roots, the bell rang as she quickly gathered her things. Side eyeing Maddie as she rested on the desk sleeping deeply.    What was wrong with her? Valentine wondered, but shrugged, Maddie wasn't her biggest friend.

Humming to herself lightly as she trailed out of the dim classroom, white earphones dangling into her pocket as Frank Sinatra played in her ear, the old music like heaven to her ears. Violin and piano rang softly as the man talked about endless love, a love for one could wish. Valentine wished for love like how he explained it, love, that was like the shields of armor.

Starring at the tiled floors, dodging away from every human body that weirdly stared at her or laughed. No one laughed or even noticed her, so why, why did they stare now. Her curly-haired bounced at the top of her head noticing a glowing Lexi who noticed her, bright eyes turning dark in worried in a matter of seconds.

"Hey, Lex." Her mood turned upward at the sight of her, long limbs wrapping around her friend's waist giving her a much-needed hug.  Valentine viewed her as a sister, a therapist, and a golden friend that everyone in their life could need. Lexi & Valentine related to each other, both in the shadows but in the spotlights of their own little worlds.
