I'm half asleep when I hear noises in my room, soon something soft caressing my cheek. "Gorgeous, wake up." A familiar voice speaks. I open my eyes and see Ryder looking down at me with an unreadable expression.

I snuggle into him because he's warm, hehe. He wraps his arms around me and holds me tightly. "What time is it." I ask. "3am. Get up I want to take you somewhere."

"That's when you kill me?"

"Nah, I would have done that when you poured on me water and feather on April Fools. My freaking birthday." We chuckle at the memory.

After some convincing I get up and put on black baggy jeans and one of his hoodies.

He climbs out my window and turns back to me. "If you drop me, I will skin you alive." I threaten him.

"Kinky." I gasp. "You are awful."

"Will you just jump, please? My balls are freezing."

"You have those?" I ask as I put a leg out the window.

"You know I do." It's dark, but I can still see him winking at me.

I jump and prepare for the hard floor to come in contact with my body, but instead muscular arms wrap themselves around me. "Told you, love."

"Shut up." I swat his chest and I'm pretty sure it hurt me more than him.

"Make me." He grabs my hand and opens his car door for me. I put on the seatbelt and he starts the car.

"So where are you taking me?" I ask as I look out the window. "Since your selfish bitch ass brother turned yesterday into his eating day, I'm going to make this day unforgettable." He tells me and turns to the right.

"And you couldn't do that maybe not at three fudging am?" I whisper shout at him.

"Fudging?" He asks with an amused smirk on his face. "I don't curse." He turns to me and continues smirking. "Mhm."

"Oh, shut up." I tell him knowing exactly what he is thinking about. My face goes red.

I turn up the radio and start to sing along to the song that is playing. When I'm done I see Ryder looking at me and a small smile is playing on his lips. "What?" I ask.

"I love this side of you." He responds.

"What side?" I'm really confused.

"When you are fully free and doesn't care about anything or anyone. The happy one." Well, wow.

I don't even realize we stopped until my door opens and Ryder offers a hand for me. I take it and get out only for him to pull me back to him and put a hand around my waist.

In front of us is a book store and it's beautiful. We go in and the lady at the front desk greets us.

"Go ahead, pick whatever you want, love."

I think I'm melting here. He cares more about me and not just about my birthday, but ME, than my family.

I look around the romance aisle and pick a few things.

Sweetest Oblivion, Twisted Game, Terms and Conditions

"That's it?" He asks. I nod my head and he takes them from my hand and walks towards the front desk. "Hello dears! Isn't it a little too early for you to be awake?" The lady asks.

"Just a little." Ryder tells her and takes out his  card. "Rydeeer." I groan.

"What is it sunshine? Would you like something else?" He asks in a whisper.

"No. I'm not going to let you pay." I protest. "Alright, I won't pay." He agrees, but I know that's not it.

He touches his card to the machine and voila, the price is gone from his card.

"My hand slipped, whoops." He smiles at me innocently and I punch his shoulder lightly.

"Violent women."

"You two are so adorable, have a great day!" The lady hands Ryder the bag.

"Thank you, have a good day!" He takes my hands and interlocks our fingers. We get in the car and drive off.

Within twenty minutes we are back at home, we climbed in through my window and change.

I'm in Ryder's shirt and shorts and he is only in sweatpants. Going over the bed I lay on top of him. He sighs and runs his fingers through my hair.

His phone buzzes, but he stays where he is. "Ryder." "I know, don't worry about it. It's your brother." He tells me.

"How comes that he can't sit in your car, but I can. You don't hang around with him as much as with me, and you only speak to me in full sentences. He is your best friend."

"Are you saying you're getting bored of me?" He asks playfully.

"You know what I meant." He sighs.

"Because..." He starts

"Because he wasn't the one who defended me when the others at school bullied me, when they called me skin and bones or told me to kill myself. He wasn't the one who held me while I cried at night because of his so called friends. He wasn't the one who told me I'm loved. And he definitely wasn't the one who kissed my scars every time I looked at them in disgust and told me I'm beautiful." He rambles.

His grip on my tightens and I'm brought closer to him so I bury my head in the crook of his neck.  His mouth is on the top of my head.

"He is not my best friend, you are."
