NARRATOR POV

➳♡゛

The morning lessons dragged on, by the time lunchtime had come around Poppy was exhausted and she had gym class last period. Boy was she going to sleep well tonight.

Placing her food tray across from Stella's, "So as I was saying some people are planning a start of year party, haven't found out where just yet but I thought you could actually come this time. Are even listening?" Stella asked.

"Yeah. Yeah and I was thinking about not coming to this party." She told her pushing her tray forward and laying her head against the cold table, "I'm pooped."

"Already? What time did you sleep last night?"

Poppy shushed her, leaning over the table Stella flicked her on the forehead causing her to sit up straight and look at her friend, "What the heck! Ow." Poppy pouted, genuine tears formed in her eyes as she folded her arms on the table. Throwing her head against her folded arms she hid her face, "That actually hurt, what the hell."

Poppy began to laugh as she looked up at Stella's concerned face, uncontrollable tears streamed down her face as Stella proceeded to also burst into a laughing fit. Poppy's previous tiredness had disappeared for now.

"So," Stella covered her mouth as she withheld another laugh, "When are you getting a boyfriend?"

Poppy almost choked on her food before Stella handed her her strawberry milk, "Here." She said as Poppy gratefully took it, taking a quick sip to stop the coughing.

Stella giggled, "You okay?" She asked her, "Are you sick? You can't be this sick so early into the school year."

Poppy looked at Stella as she passed back her milk, "Um actually Stel, I have a boyfriend." An uncertain looked was plastered on her face as Stella processed this new information.

"What?" She simply said.

Leaning back Poppy braced herself for an outburst but Stella just stared at her as if she never heard Poppy, "Um, actually never mind."

"No!" She said loudly before quieting down, "You just said you have a boyfriend, keep going. Who is it?"

Poppy takes in a breath and discreetly looks around the cafeteria before her eyes gloss of him, Jasper Walker, the school's star basketball player. He had broken up with his girlfriend just before the summer.

Snapping back to Stella she looks her in the eyes as she quietly blurts out, "Jasper." Her eyes are wide as she waits for Stella to reply.

"Poppy, you don't need to lie to me." She tells her between laughs.

"You don't believe me?" Poppy asked her.

"You, the awkward bookworm who only has one friend managed to bed the best basketball player this school has seen?" Stella asks as she picks up her apple and takes a large bite.

"Yes, well I didn't bed him like you mean, but yes."  She stammers.

"How?" She asked.

"We got close over the summer." She carries on, digging herself a deeper hole.

Poppy picked up her own carton of juice and took the straw out of the plastic packaging before sticking it through the hole and anxiously drinking it. Her throat had gone dry as she continued to lie.

Holding up her hands Stella teases, "I'll believe it when I see it."
