NARRATOR'S POV

➳♡゛

The dinner was rambunctious, filled to the near brim with older patrons preparing for their nine-to-five workday. Luckily for them, it was Friday they had a whole weekend to recuperate as much as they could before they inevitably exploded and have their midlife crisis.

"Is it always this crowded?" Poppy asked as she stepped closer to Jasper's side for an older gentleman passing by. Their arms brushed and Jasper looked down at her, "Sorry." She muttered.

He laughed softly, "It's okay," Placing his hand against her back Jasper gently pushed her to an unoccupied booth in the corner, "It'll clear out in a moment."

Taking her seat across from Jasper she watched him slide into the booth before an older waitress walked over and placed the breakfast menus onto the table, "Can I get you anything?" She asked.

Picking up the menus Poppy began looking over it, "We'll order in a moment, thanks." Jasper said.

Underneath the table Poppy's leg frantically bounced, "So why'd you choose me? I mean I am the best." Jasper picked up the other menu as he spoke, looking over the selection.

"Don't flatter yourself, you were kind of just the first person I saw." She paused, "Plus you were the one that asked, you didn't have to. You don't have to if you do-"

"I'll do it, Conway, it's fine," He interrupted, "Plus if it'll get Riley off my back for a while so I'm okay with doing it. Do you want to set any rules? Boundaries?" He raised a brow over the menu as he looked over at her.

"You do know my name's Poppy right?" She said as the waitress walked over again.

"What can I get you pair?" She asked, equipping her notebook and taking the pen from behind her ear.

"Pancakes and orange juice." Poppy answered as she looked over at Jasper who looked a little lost.

"Um," He began, "A breakfast burrito please and coffee."

Taking their order she took the menus and walked away. Poppy rested her hands on the table as she picks up her phone and awkwardly scrolls through Instagram, "You got no rules?" Jasper smirks, "If that's the case then hypothetically I could lean over this table and kiss you."

Poppy blushed as Jasper laughed, "I'm kidding, I wouldn't do that." He said, "Unless you wanted me to of course."

After a moment of stammering her words, she finally replies, "Hugging, holding hands and stuff similar to that are fine, but no." She stops briefly.

"No kissing, gotcha." Jasper winks, "But that might be a little hard for you because I am just so irresistible."

Ignoring his comment Poppy asks, "Why do you want to get Riley off your back?"

Jasper goes quiet. He fidgets with his fingers for a moment before opening his mouth to reply, "It's nothing really." He says.

Poppy was about to press a little further but Jasper was miraculously saved by the food being delivered to the table, "Thanks." He mutters to the waitress.

"Thank you," Poppy says.

They both promptly tuck into their mouth-watering food before arguing about who will cover the bill after Jasper insisted on paying for the both of them. The waitress rolled her eyes, "Aren't you two the sweetest couple." She said.

Without missing a beat Jasper promptly replies, "Yes we are, that's why I'm covering the bill."
