8. Growing closeness

Next morning, at the breakfast table

Neil: So, Mini... Tell me about your friends.

Mini: Yeh suddenly out of the topic question kaise?

Neil: Out of the topic nahi, yeh hi humara aaj ka topic hai.

Mini: Lekin kyun? 🤨

Neil: No doubt you are Ms. Investigator, lekin aaj mai sawaal puchhunga!

Mini: 🙄

Neil: 😏 So, tell me, your friends.... Your relatives etc... Kahaan rehte hain sab? Patiala?

Mini: Woh, actually, I don't have any relatives...

Neil: WHAT?

Mini: Yeah I mean... They never really cared about my family... So we not in talking terms..

Neil: Oh... Well, that's good in a way... Relatives are just good for nothing people 🤷🏻‍♂️

Mini: You're so right on this. I totally agree with you.

Neil: I'm always right! It's just that, you agreed today, Mrs. Mini Neil Oberoi!!! 😏

Mini would have thought of a comeback, but this time after hearing "Mrs. Mini Neil Oberoi" from him, she realised that she somehow likes when he calls her that. Why? Why she feels a sense of belongingness when she hears "Mrs. Mini Neil Oberoi" in his voice? Why her heart feels this sudden wave of happiness when he smiles wholeheartedly at her? Why she always feel safe and comfortable when he's around, while it's not been long since they met? Why her heart asks her to confide in him, without being afraid? Why she feel shivers running down spine whenever he comes closer? Why she feels overwhelmed with emotions when she feels his touch? Knowing the fact that he is the only man whom she's allowed to be this close to her, confused her even more. This wasn't because of the necessities of the case, this was something she never felt awkward with, not even for once. What is changing in her? What is changing between them?

Neil saw her lost, and as always, her confused mind gave him a hard time to read her thoughts. But as soon as he came across what she was thinking, it confused him too. He realised that he too, likes calling her "Mrs. Mini Neil Oberoi". And it's not because of the "different" expression he receives in return from her, instead, his heart too, feels a sense of belongingness. Why? Why his heart feels peaceful when she smiles? Why he always wanted to assure her that he's with her and she can trust him fully? Why he felt extremely happy when she decided to overcome from the clutches of her deadly fear? Why he felt terrible when he saw her in that worst condition at the parking? Why he always get swayed by his emotions when he thinks about her? Why he too, feels different sensations in his heart whenever they're close? Just like him, she too, was the only girl in his life whom his heart has allowed to enter. Why is she affecting him more than he had thought? Really, what is changing in him? What is changing between them?

Just then, they heard something from the backyard, which obviously, brought them back to their "why" zone.

Neil: I'll check.... (he stood up and took a few steps, but eventually something struck his mind) ... Mini, you also come.

Mini: Hmm.. okay..

They went towards the backyard and saw that a flower pot was lying on the floor, broken.

Mini: Wasn't this kept on the window pane, here?

Neil: Yeah, it means...

Mini: Someone was snooping around here..

They looked around but there was nobody.

Neil: Let's go inside...

He held her hand and they went inside...
