"Hey Emma" my mom says opening the door slightly
"Hi mom," I say "can I help you with something?"
"Oh nothing I just wanted to check on you because I heard you screaming "cold" or something..." She says
I was actually screaming COLE, I thought."Well I'm fine mom and thanks for checking on me, I just screamed cold because I opened the window and it was really um... Cold?" I say
"Okay then, well I better go downstairs now." She says and leaves
"Cole you can come out now..." I say shylyHe crawls out awkwardly with something behind his hands...
"What is this? Who's Drew? What..."My face turns as pale as white snow.
"Um... I can, well... I don't." I stutter
"Well then let's just read this entry from last school year, shall we?" He states
"Cole... Please." I beg
"November 13th, 2013... Drew is the best boyfriend ever, he treats me like I'm the only girl in the world and loves me to death, we've been dating for 3 months now. He's great and all but... I have to be careful not to anger him or he'll hit me... I have a small scratch on my arm because he dug his nails into my arm and twisted it after I had told him I didn't wanna hang out this weekend... But I have to just forget about it... -Emma" he reads
"Cole... Please..." I say with tears welling up in my eyes because he's only pages away from the truth. But he keeps reading, getting angrier and angrier after each page.
"November 20th, 2013... Things have been getting a little tense between Drew and I... I told him I didn't like him following me around all day and we got into this big argument and he hit me again and now I have a bruise...honestly I cant take this anymore but I know he was just mad and I have to let it go..."
"Oh my god please stop!" I say, tears falling slowly. He reads once more
"December 2nd, 2013... I can't take this anymore. I have bruises and scars all over me and I want to go away from this mess. I broke up with him and he said I'll regret it. Today I lost my dad. He got in an accident and I know Drew was behind this. He was abusive and now wants to get back at me for breaking up with him. I'm scared. I told my mom and now we're moving... I'll have to be homeschooled for a little bit but it'll be okay. I just want to forget this mess..."
That was the last thing I wrote in that stupid book.
Cole shuts the book and just stands there looking at me.
I look back at him. He knows the truth, but what he doesn't know is that Drew found me. Again.
