Hiding Riftan proved to be more difficult than she thought. She didn't expect it to be this much of a problem.

Okay, so she had to admit it was strange he wasn't present so much at meetings, training, or basically anything his days used to consist of. The staff wouldn't really question this before, but now it was hard to keep thinking of excuses all the time, especially when Agnes was giving her the side eye. The paranoia was going to drive her up a wall.

"Why are we hiding in this random ass storage room?" Her husband grumbled when Maxi peeked from the door.

It wasn't the first time she made him do this.

"I swear I saw her!" Goosebumps ran up her back.

"Who?"

"The Princess. D-Duh!" She looked back to glare at him, but Riftan just rolled his eyes.

"I'm cramped in here, and I want lunch," He complained, rubbing his stomach like an impatient child. "It was probably just a maid. If we see her all we need to do is side step and go the opposite direction." Riftan walked up behind her, placing his chin on her head, and his large hands on her shoulders so he could look through the opening too. Maxi tried to ignore the heat on her skin and focus.

"That is r-rude! And anyway, I'm sure she knows something is up. E-Everytime...we're together, she says something that makes my heart pound."

"I thought those talks were reserved for me." Maxi blushed as his hand crept to her waist, but she was also really annoyed. He was not taking this seriously in the slightest!

"Uh, I j-just think you two should have as little contact as possible. I'm afraid she'll ask a question we can't answer- the d-dinners are difficult enough." It was best to act like he hadn't spoken.

At least when the ate with the other knights, the Princess wouldn't say too much because of listening ears. If she caught him, or the two of them alone, Maxi could not imagine where the conversation would go. Agnes was not shy after all.

But Riftan wrapped two arms around her waist, bringing her closer into his chest as he nuzzled into her body. This movement easily derailed her thoughts.

"I want to have contact with you, my wife..." Everywhere they touched, her skin burned up. Why did he have to sound so irresistible? Riftan was now like the devil on her shoulder, constantly pulling her into things she shouldn't be doing.

Even if that was what she, also, wanted.

"Very funny." She patted his arm, letting out an awkward laugh. Then she successfully wiggled out of his grasp and went to the door, looking back at him.

Maxi never thought she would see her husband pout. It almost made her burst out laughing, but she held it in for his sake.

"Aren't y-you still hungry? Let's go now." The man who was just begging her to leave was now sulking at her actions.

He tilted his head mischievously, and she felt nervous.

"Yes, I'm starving." He quickly snatched her hand with his, drawing Maxi farther into the small room. There he peppered her face with kisses.

"You're so a-annoying..." But even as she said the words, she couldn't help but melt into him.

Maxi hoped being together would always make her this happy. Caught in his embrace, she never wanted to break away, even while her mind was screaming at her to leave the room and act decently.

I just don't want to think of problems right now. We're having a good moment and I don't want to leave it, either.

Abandoning all reason, she stopped his pecks to pull Riftan into a heated kiss. He let a surprised sound out when she willingly crushed their lips together, depriving him of all air. But even the threat of suffocation did not stop him from responding.

Maxi pressed him into the back wall, bringing herself closer. She pressed her breasts into his chest, wanting to feel his skin on hers. He felt wonderful, every movement of his lips against hers. She ran her hands up and down his strong arms- they were so powerful, and yet, under her touch, he seemed to shudder too.

She didn't understand why he cared for her so much, and too often doubted herself, or his feelings for her. That made her feel guilty; especially when his actions were perfect towards her, so attentive, almost too much. For someone who had no love in their life, his behavior was at times uncomprehensible. How did she get to be so lucky?

Part of her thought the good fortune was bound to run out one time or another; but for now she was with him.

And she couldn't lose Riftan. He was her family now.

Moving down, she began to lay kisses on his neck, when tensed as his breathing quickened.

"Maxi..."

When she looked up, he was blushing harder than she'd ever seen him.

So she continued.

Maybe it was stupid, but she could not control her jealous urges whenever Agnes spoke about Riftan. She always did as if the two were close, had known each other very well during the war. And besides that, it was like she didn't notice any of Maxi's vexation, or didn't think it could possibly bother her. Because of her nonchalant attitude, the lady wondered:

Am I being too extra?

But then she decided she didn't care at all if she was. Riftan was her husband, it was normal to feel this way, right? She hoped so, because the anguish wasn't going away...

"Ow." He softly hissed. In her fit of envy, she had sucked hard enough under his shirt to leave a bruise. For a second she stared at it, both embarrassed and intrigued.

"...sorry." She patted his chest to soothe him.

"No, it's okay," Riftan covered his face with one hand like he wanted to hide, before running the other hand through his hair and appearing to pull himself together. "I guess I didn't know what I had gotten myself into." He still managed to tease her, even while he was flustered! Maxi went just as red.

"Don't- w-well, you should know, when you get your memory back you'll remember you've done t-ten times worse things than me!"

He was about to respond, but both of them heard a squeak of shock from the door. Two heads snapped to the room's exit- they hadn't even thought to close it.

Maxi rushed towards the door with Rofyan close behind, but she couldn't even stop the person who was quickly fleeing, giving them a disgusted look as he ran.

It was the Princess's attendant, no doubt going to tell her everything he heard.

With pure mortification, she realized Ruth was right.

We're screwed.
