Hi guys! Thanks for keeping up with Serendipity. I'm really hoping that those of you who read could give me a thumbs up or down so that I can improve my story.
This particular chapter is dedicated to all those of you who have been misunderstood by your peers and just wishing that someone would understand and accept the way you are. Listen to 'In your shadows I can shine by Tokio Hotel' as you read this chapter. Is anyone a fan of them like I am?
Thanks again.
CHAPTER EIGHT
You see my soul, I'm a nightmare
Out of control, I'm crashing
In your shadows I can shine - Tokio Hotel
THE GAME
Megan and Mr Bob were showing off their musical skills on the piano, with Megan's fingers gliding on the keys to the tune of 'Smoke on Waters' accompanied by Mr Bob's enthusiastic thumping rendition of same on which ever part of the keyboards that he could lay his paws on. Mr Bob didn't act out his musical inclination to annoy anyone - he just felt that he could play just as well or not even better at any musical instrument ever invented than his nearest competitor.
However, it usually took more than a musical ear to appreciate the ongoing duet but for Aly, having Zac sitting close but not close enough to her liking on the couch was the only thought occupying her mind at that moment. His arm casually draped over the back of the couch; Aly felt her body stiffening at the almost body contact her shoulder would have made with his long slender fingers. She couldn't understand why she felt like a wreck to be so close to him; she forced her attention back to the musical presentation in front of her.
'Is it always like this?' He leaned towards her and she felt herself staring at his perfect lips. Her head slowly tilted towards his before she pulled herself back abruptly. Gathering herself, she asked coolly.
'Noisy?'
'Happy.' He corrected her.
'If you count coping with madness as one of the many traits of being happy, then I suppose it's a 'yes. I'm lucky to have them around... and you.' Aly added shyly, wondering whether she had overstepped any lines. She watched for his reaction. He looked at her, a confused expression clouded his striking eyes.
It worried her - maybe she shouldn't have added the 'you'.
With conscious slowness he moved, her eyes following his hands as they rose from his lap and moved towards her cheek, his fingers pushing aside a strand of loose hair and caressing the outline of her cheekbones. A sigh escaped his lips and the I-need-to-be-in-control meter in her collapsed. She held her breath and closed her eyes; she didn't dare take a breath, nothing that would break his spell over her. The inevitable that was waiting to happen all day, only the inevitable in this case was the end of the duet by Megan and Mr Bob.
Aly let out a sigh and opened her eyes to focus on the unlikely pairing of duet in front of her instead.
'Bravo.' Aly managed a half-hearted yell, hoping nobody would notice.
'Aahh... you're just saying that, but it will suffice seeing that my partner had not been putting in the hours at the piano lately. What did you think of it?' Megan glanced his way.
'It was unusual but very entertaining. Well played, even your partner. He had perfect timing.' He was his courteous self.
'Do you play?'
'A long time ago.' Zac replied modestly.
'Not a musical instrument - the Wii. I bet you can never outdo Aly on the Wii - do you remember Aly?
