Let Love In by Goo Goo Dolls
ZAC FINDS ALY
A shadow was slowly being cast over her. She opened her eyes to see Zac’s silhouette. His broad and tall frame made a shade for her. Aly couldn’t see his features clearly, just a dark outline against the setting sun rays. She continued to lie still, motionless. Just the heaving of her chest as she breathed was all the signs that she was alive.
Aly closed her eyes again. Even now, she could feel his eyes on her from where he stood. Without stirring from her position, she heard the rustle of leaves and the slightest of movement on the ground.
‘Hmm...he’s going to get his white shirt dirty.´ she thought to herself. She smiled at the thought that it might not matter to him as she’s sure his entire wardrobe consists of only white oxford shirts and it was a good thing his body looked great in those shirts.
Aly turned her head and peeked at him. His eyes were closed, like hers a moment ago. She studied his face – the perfectly straight nose, the deep set eyes, the stubborn jaw line, the full lips and the porcelain skin – not a single blemish to mar the perfectness. He was perfect in every sense, although a frown line made an appearance on his smooth forehead now. A leaf was caught in his hair. The sunlight was strong and made his hair looked lighter and more golden than ash brown. Aly reached out to remove the leaf and before her fingers could even touch a single strand of his hair, his hand was on her wrist. With a languid movement, he brought it to his lips and gave her inner wrist a soft, tender kiss.
Something snapped in her and she jerked her hand away. It had felt like acid where his lips touched her causing a burning like sensation on her inner wrist. Momentarily both of them looked stunned.
‘I’m ....sorry, Zac. I want to feel your touch but then again, I don’t. I can’t explain it myself. Oh... I’m not making any sense, am I?’ Aly said, frustration in her voice. She had a knack of making things sound complicated.
‘Don’t worry about it, Aly.’ Zac replied in a soft voice. ‘I understand.’
Something else stirred in Aly. This time it was a growing irritation at Zac. How could he appear so calm and cool about things; how could he be so frustratingly understanding about everything when all her insides were churning like a volcano about to erupt.
She tried but not too hard to stay calm and collected when the words spilled from her mouth.
‘Can you PLEASE stop being so damn understanding for once? Can’t you even be mad ... at me ?’
‘I look at you and I see a boy I like, I really, really like. And this boy has spent the past two weeks being the best thing that happened in my life in a long time. And last night, this boy told me he’s not real, as in a human – like me. I have a right to be confused. And you have the right to be disappointed in me. You gave up everything for me and I can’t even decide now whether I want you to touch me or not! So don’t lie there and say you understand ... about this!’ Aly paused to catch her breath. It was unnatural if he didn’t feel half the chaos she was feeling. But he’s an angel – he’s supposed to know everything!
Silence hung in the air.
‘It hurts.’
She barely caught his words and when it did sink in a second later, she heaved a sigh of relief.
‘I know.’
‘But the thing is ... I don’t want it to go away.’ He murmured.
‘Neither do I.’
