Seems everything I knew
No longer gets me throught this madness
I can't take it now
Everything I've planned has crumpled into sand

BACK OFF
Aly's head thundered like the incessant beating of a drum. She stared at him, blurry eyed. It felt like a dream - the entire day. So perfect the day had started and was slowly turning into her greatest nightmare.
She had no faith.
She couldn't see faith.
She didn't feel faith.
She didn't need faith!
If God existed, he would surely understand.
Instead, he had to send her an angel to prove her wrong? And one that she was falling for!
Aly lowered her head unto her knees. She truly felt faint. Inhaling deep breaths, she stood up and faced him. This time, she stared straight at him, unflinching. He began to take a step forward but she struck out her arm, not wanting to feel his touch again.
'Just talk. Say what you need to say, but trust me, I'm not a believer,' she hissed.
As she spoke those words, Aly's perception of the world and life she thought she knew changed. It changed because Zac changed. No matter how hard she clung to her disbeliefs, she knew she wasn't in for a magic show.
Zac glowed an eerie glow, his skin lightened till it appeared translucent. Light seeped through his skin unto the surface. It was as though there was a life size glow-in-the-dark mannequin in front of her. Majestic barely cut it to describe the figure before her.
There was certain splendour about him but his facial expression was that of a pained tortured soul. He seemed troubled by this little act of his. It compromised his situation even more. He was only doing so to prove an imperative point to Aly, and that saddens him.
'It's illogical that we are both made from the same Creator, one made from earth and one from light. One that lives under the sky and the other hidden from sight; both under no circumstances be one.' Zac took one leap and landed on top of the water tank, which was at least half a storey high.
He doesn't have a halo!
'We have caused destruction beyond your comprehension to your kind when commanded. We have saved souls when all was lost. Neither our might nor power is used for our own gain.' As he talked, she felt his presence moving closer and closer to her and when she blinked, he stood no further than a foot away.
And then he began to metamorphosis. First, his outline blurred and his body took on a liquid form like appearance. With the help of the wind swirling around him, he dispersed into the night.
He was gone, all that was left was the night in front of her.
Knowing that it looked stupid even before she did it, nevertheless she struck out her hand to touch the nothingness in front of her; just to make sure he had vanished. But even before she could withdraw her hand, out from the corner of her eyes, she saw him materialized 10 feet away and with lightning speed moved towards her.
His lips whispered dangerously close to her, 'Now, do you believe?'
If he was an illusionist, he had her fooled. Sarcastically she thought, this was way better than any Las Vegas show she'd been. Unmoving, unblinking, gazing deeply into her eyes; she could see every outline of him magnified a thousand times clearer, every feature perfectly carved. He was so perfectly made.
'You can say I'm capable of almost anything... but to feel for you, a feeling not of compassion or empathy. You made me question who I was, what I am. I am one without options, without choices.'
Sadness filled his voice but his face was unreadable. He took a deep breath in and when he spoke, this time his voice shook,
'But yet all I think about is you... all the time.'
She wasn't going to be convinced that easily. 'Why did you leave?' she challenged him.
'The first time, it was all so new to me. My feelings and emotions. Jealousy! It did strange things to me. I wasn't happy that there were other guys talking to you and you were flirting with them. I had no right to, but I felt angry and possessive towards you. Taking a human form for my own selfish needs ... and it felt like I was going to destroy you. Whatever good that was left in me made me leave you.... but it was foolish of me to think I could stay away.' He gave out a sarcastic laugh.
'You followed me?' Apprehension rang clear in her tone.
He kept silent.
He knew his answer would make her even more uneasy. If only she knew how every single thing about her was driving him over the edge. He carefully chose his next words.
'Nothing can ever destroy us but yet I was fearful. The further I went, the stronger the fear grew. My escape failed. I had to come back. Would you understand if I said I had never felt fear before meeting you?'
'Now, it is you I fear.' He sighed.
Even if she wanted to turn away from him then, she couldn't for his words wedged onto her mind with an iron grip. Transfixed, she could feel her whole body gravitating towards him.
'I could feel your hurt when I left. You were bound to me, your feelings for me were growing. But I needed to learn to handle my feelings first before I could be around you again.'
'And now ....' she choked on her words.
He answered without hesitation,
'I can never leave you.... at times it feels like madness... the uncertainties that consumes me. But I give in - to you.' His voice carried an air of resignation and he looked intently into her eyes, looking for any sign of a rejection or acceptance.
Aly's world was spinning in her head. She felt her anger slowly slipping away from her as she realized the creature's angst was made up of a formidable journey, one that was least travelled by herself.
Surrender.
Her legs shook so hard, she had to sit down on the cold cemented floor. She pulled her knees up to bury her head in between and hugged herself. She didn't know whether to cry or to laugh. How can she not believe what was in front of her? How does that define their relationship now?
She heard his footsteps and then his body warmth near her. Not touching and not speaking. He was letting her decide. No pressure. The memory of their lips almost touching a few minutes ago charged like an electric shock through her body. She tried to control her desire but mixed with his equal desire for her that she knew, she was compelled to him. Uncontrollably, without questions, she wanted him too.
She lifted her head and met his gaze directly. He sat in front of her, his knees pulled up to his chin, head tilted so that his eyes bore straight into her, unblinking. Very slowly, she uncurled herself and with the movements of a predator, she moved in on him. She saw his eyes widen in surprise.
A flicker of hope flashed through them.
She liked she was the one holding the cards now.
