The Klein-Mikaelson household was for once just filled with the blood of the family. Each member was peacefully in their own room but their minds weren't peaceful as they were in each of their own rooms.

Frank and Elise Klein were both facing opposite directions in their bed as their thoughts filled with their daughter. Elise wondered how and when Zoe will figure out when she can make her own decisions. Frank's thoughts were filled with his nightmares but now he made a deal with the devil himself, his brother-in-law, Elijah.

Dexter Klein paced his room tossing a lacrosse ball up in the air as his thoughts kept filling with a voice.

"Best friend promises are hard to break."

Dexter's life was very simple, up to this point. He had a best friend who started dating his sister and it made him incredibly happy. He had his love of his life, who was his sister's best friend. He had both parents and his uncles were very supportive of his life.

His life just seemed to simple.

Dexter glanced up to his desk to see a picture frame of him and Scott from the end of Sophomore year but a space in the middle of them, just big enough for a person. Dexter remembers this day, he remembers he wanted to show Scott what a real Klein party was like. A party where they didn't have to chase a supernatural creature or where someone was out to kill them.

Dexter growled as he threw the ball at the picture, cracking the frame down the middle.

Elijah Mikaelson sat in his office as he held a moonstone in his head. One of many that he and Zoe felt connected to, a stone that meant new beginnings. He was worried the moment when Zoe said she spotted a new thread. He was worried when this stone started to glow with a dim light.

A new beginning for Zoe meant something was changing in the plan he created for her. A plan that he, no, the family needed. Zoe was a saving grace for him. Zoe was the one person he could rely on, he could treat like a daughter and now he became the enemy.

Elijah stared at the stone in his hand silently cursing as the stone started to glow brighter.

"No one has ever asked me that before."
