Hiccup's P.O.V.

I had taken a fish to the cove, looking for the Night Fury. I wasn't too sure how good of an idea it was, but something isn't right about these dragons and I'm gonna figure out what it is. I heard the dragon above and looked over just as he stepped down from a rock. He was very leary of me but was curious as I held out the fish to him. He stepped forward opening his mouth for the fish, but he was still leary. He stopped where he stood. I moved my vest coat aside revealing my dagger. The dragon sat where it stood and growled at me. I removed the dagger from my waist belt, holding it out dropping it on the ground. He motioned his head towards the water. I picked it up with my foot tossing it into the water. This peaked his interest even more as he became wide-eyed and he sat looking at me curiously. I held out the fish to him. He hesitantly stepped towards me, opening his mouth upon sniffing the fish. Even more, curiosity took over me.

"Huh?--Toothless--I could've sworn you had--"

He quickly popped out his teeth, snatching the fish from my hands. I pulled my arms close to myself in defense.

"Teeth,"

After finishing the fish he looked at me with curiosity as he started to sniff me. As he stepped closer I started stepping backwards.

"Uh--no, no, no--"

I stumbled to the ground, crawling backwards towards the rock.

"I don't have anymore,"

He stood over me for a moment before throwing up part of the fish I gave him. I was a little disgusted, but mainly just curious about this magnificent creature. I watched him as he sat there just staring at me. I honestly felt a little awkward just sitting there as we stared at one another. However, I was still amazed. No one has ever gotten to be this close to a dragon before and lived to tell about it. The dragon's eyes went from me to the half-fish I held in my hands back to me. I knew exactly what he wanted and I wasn't too happy about it, but I needed him to trust me. I hesitantly bit into the fish not taking my eyes off of him. He perked his ears up looking at me with even more curiosity. I held out the fish pretending to like the taste. I felt like this dragon was a lot smarter than I had previously thought. He made a swallowing motion. I dropped my arms in complaint. As I went to swallow it the taste almost made me sick. He was still just staring at me in curiosity. As I smiled at him, it almost felt like he was examining me. More amazement took over me as I watched him trying to copy my smile. I set the fish to the side as I reached my hand out to touch him. He growled at me before gliding to the other side of the cove. I walked over to him. Just as a bird flew by, he noticed me now sitting near him. He was annoyed as he moved himself away from me, wrapping his tail around himself. I scooted closer reaching my arm towards his tail. He lifted it looking at me. I stood turning away from him awkwardly.

~A Couple Hours Later~

I sat on a rock doodling a picture of him trying to think of a way to earn his trust. There has to be a way somehow. I felt him right beside me. I didn't move an inch as my heart started beating more rapidly. My stomach was spinning in circles as I continued drawing. More curiosity crossed me as I noticed him move away from me. I looked just as I heard a crunching noise. I turned just as he came back trying to draw in the sand with a small tree he lifted up. I was beyond amazed as I watched him. I was so intrigued I wasn't even bothered when he hit me over the head with the branch. I stood admiring it as the Night Fury sat back looking at his work. I looked around trying to figure out how to get a better look at it. Just as I went to step to a better spot, he growled at me. I stopped quickly as I looked at him. I looked down to see my foot on part of his drawing. I lifted it only to have his whole demeanor change. He was wide-eyed and he looked happy and proud of himself. I decided to test him. I repeated stepping on it twice both with the same results. When I stepped on it he growled. When I moved my foot he made a soft noise looking at me with a happy curious look. I gave him a soft smile before stepping in between the lines. It was almost as if I was dancing around until I made it out of his large drawing. I couldn't wrap my head around how amazing this was. I felt his breath on the back of my neck. I turned around to find him looking directly at me. I went to reach my hand out only to have him growl at me again. I closed my eyes holding out my arm.  I turned my head away slowly stretching my arm till it stopped. As soon as I felt his nose touch my hand, I was a little scared, until he gently moved away. I opened my eyes to look at him just before he moved away. Everything we've ever learned about these guys is wrong. There's so much more to them than any of us know.
