♤Season 8, Episode 10♤
Angela continues operating, ignoring the news Teddy is facing right now. She hears her pager going off continuously but keeps operating, "Okay, Kepner, I just need to take her off bypass, go see what's happening in the pit. And check on how Altman is doing."
"Yes, Dr. Karev," April nods, leaving the OR, while Angela continues.
"Crap. Someone page Dr. Yang, and if she doesn't answer, page Dr. Hunt."
After a few moments, Owen comes into the OR, "You paged?"
She nods, not looking back, "The patient's got a flail mitral valve. The sutures for the patch caught on the valve when we went on bypass."
Owen sighs, "Uh, what can I do?"
"Tell me that I can have Yang. I need another me and Teddy isn't an option right now. These sutures won't hold," Angela groans, suturing and resuturing the heart.
"She just got out of Henry's surgery-"
"Yeah, and so did I. I know she feels guilty, but if we're gonna avoid another death, I need Yang or Altman. Since Teddy's husband died, get me Yang. It'll keep her away from Teddy until I can talk to her. Damn it, sponge stick," Angela groans, before looking back at Owen, "Now Hunt!"

The door behind Angela opens, "Thank God you're here, Yang. Scrub in-"
Teddy's voice stops her, "It's not Yang. I can assist."
"Did you talk to Hunt?" Angela asks, looking back quickly.
"Yes. I know about Henry. But I need to help this patient," Angela can hear the tears in Teddy's voice.
Angela turns around, "No. You need to be anywhere but an OR right now. Your husband just died. I was in the room. I was supposed to step in and stop that from happening but I couldn't. We can't work together right now, get out."
Cristina comes through the door a couple minutes after Teddy leaves, "What do we got?"
"Flail mitral valve when I took her off bypass. I know we just had a taxing surgery but I need you right now and Altman isn't coming back in here. I need your hands, we're back on bypass."
"Okay, I'll scrub," Cristina turns into the scrub room as Angela continues.
Once Cristina joins Angela at the table, they find their rhythm, "Can't get visualization of the mitral valve. The left atrium's too small."
"What about superior pulmonary vein exposure?" Cristina suggests, holding a clamp.
Angela lets out a breath, before nodding, "Yes, good. Okay, let's do it. Scissors. Altman was in here. I'll take most of the heat from her. It wouldn't be the first time we argued."
Cristina nods, "You don't have to. I was the surgeon who operated."
"And I am your attending. I called time of death. Like I said in the OR, that one is on me."
"Still bad visualization," Cristina looks back to this patient.
"There is a lot of unexpected fibrosis. We're just increasing out chances of rupturing her heart. We can't get in there. There's too much tension on the walls. All right. This needs to be done right," She sits up straight for a moment and thinks, "Okay, we're gonna do an ex vivo."
The resident looks between the patient and Angela, "You want to take the heart out? Can we-can we try to-"
Angela shakes her head, "I know it's been a long day. But this is a cardiac autotransplantation for an ex vivo valve reconstruction. We need to be all in, are you up for this?"
