AFTER GETTING BACK, rain began to pour heavily as soon as they stepped into the apartment. Miracle ran through the house and headed straight for his water bowl.Astra pulled her jacket off and hung it up beside Sam's as the man looked down at her.
"You okay?"
She walked towards the kitchen, sitting down at the island. "It was so weird. . . I kept hearing a voice, and then I saw. . . Me. I was falling."
Sam entered the kitchen and grabbed two glasses before grabbing a bottle of whiskey from the cabinet. "I think you were remembering when you came to earth."
"I heard someone scream that I was a coward." She said quietly. "And that I was no daughter of theirs."
Sam's eyes met hers as he stopped pouring the whiskey. "Astra, that was Zeus."
"Yeah, and clearly he isn't a fan of me."
He scoffed. "Zeus is not a good man, Astra. Literally. He's well known to be probably the biggest douche in Greek Mythology."She stared at the glass of whiskey as he slid it across the island, to her. "It'll help you calm down a bit."
Astra picked up the glass and sniffed at the liquid. Her nose wrinkled as she looked up at Sam, who was laughing.
"Don't think about it, just throw it back. Like this."
Astra watched as Sam tossed his head back and swallowed the whiskey whole. He set his empty glass down, licking his lips.
The woman followed Sam's moves and did as he did. As she swallowed the whiskey, she immediately coughed as it burned her throat on the way down. She set the glass down as she tried to breathe, watching him grin.
"That was your first shot of alcohol." He told her as she coughed.
"That was disgusting."He became serious again. "Hey, try not to worry about it, okay? You're fine here with me, I don't want you to think that this is temporary. . . I mean, it doesn't have to be."
Astra looked up at him and noticed the sincerity in his eyes. It caused her heart to swell, and a warmth spread through the pit of her stomach.
"Thank you."
The power started flickering through the house, and it went out completely, leaving them in the dark. Thunder rumbled outside as the wind picked up.
"All right, time for some candles, I guess." Sam opened the cabinet and pulled out a few candles. Astra slid off of the chair, trying not to worry.
"Is there anything I can do?"
"Uh, yeah. If you wanna grab some blankets and pillows from my room, it's gonna get too cold in my room with no heat. Looks like we're both sleeping out here tonight."
Astra watched as Sam reached out, holding a flash light. She took it and turned it on before walking down the hallway.
Inside of the room, Miracle laid on the bed, lifting his head as she entered the room. The dog was shaking, and his tail began to wag.
"Hey, you don't like storms, either, huh?" She asked him. "Come on, let's go to the living-room."
Miracle jumped off the bed, and Astra gathered the folded blankets from the cupboard before grabbing two of Sam's pillows. She walked back out, watching as Sam appeared from the living-room.
He had moved the coffee table across the room, and the lit candles were spread out around the house, creating dim lighting. Lightning flashed through the windows, and Miracle whimpered as he jumped onto the couch.
"Hey, it's okay, buddy." Sam said, petting his ears. "It's just a storm, nothing to worry about."
Astra set the flashlight down. "I don't like storms, either."
Sam looked over at her. "Don't worry, you're safe."
The woman unfolded one of the blankets before draping it flatly across the ground. "So, what now?"
Sam cleared his throat. "Uh, we wait it out. It shouldn't be all night, but who knows when the power will come on."
Astra took a deep breath. "Fun."
Sam held a finger up. "Just a sec."
As he disappeared, Astra sat back and sighed. She tried to forget the sound of the storm that was causing her anxiety to increase. She tapped her fingers against her thighs.
"All right, here we go."
She looked up to see Sam carrying in a bunch of boxes, each colored or showing something weird. Astra rose a brow as he set them on the coffee table.
"What are those?"
"Board games." He replied. "Eileen left them over here a few months ago, not really sure why. Let's see, we got Scrabble, Monopoly, Clue, Sorry. . ."
Astra looked at him. "What are you sorry for?"
Sam laughed, and she stared at him confusedly.
"No, it's the name of the game."Her face reddened as she placed her head in her hands, embarrassed. "Sorry."
"No, you had no idea. And it's a weird name for a game. But it's fun. All of them are. Uh, maybe we should try Sorry first? It's the easiest one."
She crossed her legs and folded her hands in her lap. "Okay."
Sam opened the box and set up the board. As he shuffled the cards and set them in the middle, he showed her the slider colors. "What color do you want?"
Astra stared at the colors. She needed to choose between red, blue, yellow and green.
"Blue?"
Sam handed her the blue pieces. "So, you're going to start by putting your sliders in your home, the one of your color. The objective is to get each of your sliders around the board and back into home."
"How do I do that?"
"You pull a card when it's your turn. I'll go first and show you."Sam pulled the card, revealing it to her. "So, I got three. You have to make sure to read the card, because sometimes it will make you move backwards that amount. But mine says move forward three."
Astra nodded. Once Sam moved his slider, she reached for her own card. "Move forward seven."
She grabbed her slider and moved seven spaces. Sam nodded, watching her smile.
After a few games of Sorry, they decided to move onto Scrabble. Sam figured it would be a good opportunity for Astra to try and spell words.
Sam placed his tiles on the board, putting the word "kick" down. Astra stared hard at her tiles, trying to think.
"Is this too hard? We can play something else."
She didn't respond. She was determined, and refused to give up.Astra grabbed her tiles and added onto "kick", and she added "kiss". Sam looked over at her.
"Do you think I've ever been kissed?" Astra asked him. Sam inhaled as he glanced down at the board.
"Uh, I don't know. I mean, I think you may have."
"What makes you think so?"
"Because you're beautiful."Astra looked up at him, raising her chin from her knee. Sam cleared his throat and chuckled.
"Sorry, that was random."
She shook her head. "No, my question was."The man moved his tiles around. "I just meant that you're a good person, Astra. And if any guy in your old life was smart enough, they'd kiss you and serve you well."
Astra stared at him with awestruck eyes. Every word Sam spoke, the more attracted she was to him.
"I don't even know if I'm a good kisser." She said, leaning back on her hands.
"Well, maybe you can test that someday." Sam said, smiling. She felt her face heat as he stared back down at his tiles.
She was infatuated with Sam Winchester.
