EVERYTHING WAS DARK. And it was silent in Astra's mind. There was nothing for who knows how long. She was alone with her thoughts, that were telling her in every way possible to wake up.And suddenly, it all hit her at once. Being at the bar, having fun with Claire and Kaia while the music blared, to being dragged out of the building. She could remember Richard inching closer and closer, about to kill Sam.
Sam.
WAKE UP!
Her own voice inside of her head caused her to wake, gasping as she did so. She was inside of a bright room, laying in a reclined bed. She was in a hospital.
Astra stared down at herself and examined the IV that was giving her fluids. Her hands were bandaged to her wrists, and her collarbone was covered with a piece of gauze beneath the hospital gown. She was sore.
She barely had a voice, but she managed to choke it out. "S—Sam?"
She caught sight of someone moving outside of her room, and she watched as the door opened. Astra felt her heart swell as Sam appeared, relief crossing over his features.
"Astra, it's okay." He rushed towards the bed and sat down at her side. "You're safe."
Astra stared up at him as he leaned towards her. "What happened, after you found me? I—I thought he had killed you."
Sam shook his head and smiled at her as he placed his hand to her cheek. His skin was warm and soft against her bruised cheek, bringing her more comfort than she had imagined.
"We can cover all of that later, I have to let your nurse know you're awake."
Astra reached for Sam's hand as he began moving away from the bed. "No."
The man noticed the sheer terror on her face at the thought of separating from her. She winced in pain from her actions, and she laid back against the bed again.
"You have to be careful, you're pretty banged up."
"Don't leave. Please."Sam shook his head. "I won't leave, okay? I'm right here."
He leaned forward and pressed the help button beside the bed. Astra closed her eyes as a headache began to form, and she felt Sam place his hand on her own.
When the door opened, she looked over to see a nurse enter. He smiled as he walked towards the bed.
"It's good to see you awake." He told her. "How are you feeling, Kat?"
Astra stared at him in confusion, before turning her head. Sam stared at her, giving her a small smile. It was an alias.
"I'm sore." Astra told the nurse.
"As expected. Are you aware of what injuries you suffered from?"Astra shook her head.
"Well, your attacker seemed to drain a lot of blood from your body. You also suffered from a minor concussion, which is why you have a headache. And you suffered from electrical burns. Kat, you're lucky to be alive. But I do expect you to have a full recovery within the next few weeks."
She took a deep breath. "And where is the man?"
"Police are still creating an investigation."Astra swallowed. "When can I leave?"
Sam chuckled, and the nurse smiled.
"We do want to keep you under observation, just to see how your body is reacting to the blood transfusion. But the way you're handling it, I think tomorrow at the latest. Just a little more time with some fluids and medications."
