"OH MY GOD, seriously?"Astra was sitting inside of Claire's bedroom. Her, Claire and Kaia were playing a game of Uno, having a conversation about human experiences.
"So, you've never—"
"Claire, she's been on earth for barely two months." Kaia reminded her, tossing a card into the discard deck. "There's a lot of things she hasn't done."Astra shrugged her shoulders. "I haven't done much of anything."
"You just sit around the house while Sam does all of the work? You let him keep you prisoner?"Kaia rolled her eyes. "Sometimes, I wonder why I love you."
"What could I possibly be missing?" Astra asked.
"Hunting. Partying, karaoke, sex— and considering how fragile Sam is with you, you two haven't done any of those things.""She has a lifetime to do that stuff." Kaia told Claire. "And maybe we can even take her out to the bar?"
"You mean drinking?" Astra asked.
Claire grinned. "Kaia, I'm in love with you. Even though you knew that."Claire walked towards the closet. "Get dressed, we're going to the bar."
"Shouldn't we tell Sam and Jody first?"
"If we tell them, they won't let you go." Claire told the woman. "They'll just force you to stay here, and you, Astra, are your own person. Here, put this on."
Claire tossed a black shirt to Astra, and she immediately noticed the low cut on the front.
"You can't stay locked up in a house for the rest of your life. You got to get out there, and maybe it'll show Sam what he's missing."
Astra stared at the top, and she began to imagine herself inside of a bar with Claire and Kaia, drinking and having fun.
Fuck it.
Astra pulled her flannel off and replaced it with Claire's top. She pulled the thin material down, and she looked towards the mirror.
"You look hot!"
She laughed. "I feel like it's too small."
"No, it's perfect." Claire said, looking at the time. "Cool, Jody is usually upstairs by now. And Sam passed out. We should have easy access out."Sam woke later on as thunder rumbled. The man rubbed his face tiredly as he sat up on the couch, glancing down at the empty mattress.
Staring down at his watch that ready eleven thirty, the man got up and walked towards the kitchen, looking for Astra.
"Astra?"
Just as he began walking towards Claire's bedroom, his phone went off. He walked towards the couch, watching Miracle's ears perk at the sound of the ringing. The man noticed Claire's contact.
"Claire? Where's Astra, and why are you guys out so—"
"Sam, shut up and listen to me." Claire's voice was shaky and breathless. Sam woke up immediately at the urgency of her tone. "Sam, some group of guys took Astra."Sam's heart stopped beating as he stiffened. "What do you mean some group took her?"
"We were just getting some drinks at the bar, but when Kaia and I left to get more, we saw these guys practically drag her out. We tried to stop them, but they beat the shit out of us."
Sam ran towards the staircase. "Claire, what the hell were you guys thinking? Jody!"
"We were just trying to show Astra what having fun is like, okay? Shit, I think they broke my arm."
Jody rushed down the stairs, barely awake. "Sam, what's going on?"
"The girls took Astra out, some group took her." Sam said. "All right, Claire, do you know anything, maybe what they looked like or where they were headed?"
"The dude carrying her was a beer-guzzler. Gut and all. They all were dressed like regular guys. . . They're in a grey van, I managed to get the license plate."
Sam grabbed his keys as he walked towards the door. "Tell me everything that happened."
FIFTEEN MINUTES BEFORE
Astra took a swig of her beer, slamming the empty bottle down. Claire and Kaia laughed, impressed by the woman's tolerance.
"You can drink a lot without falling on your face." Claire said.
"This is fun!" Astra shouted over the loud music. I Hate Myself for Loving You by Joan Jett blared through the crowded bar, and she bobbed her head to the music.
"Hey, can we get more beer?" Astra asked. "I really want to dance!"
Kaia grinned as Claire grabbed her hand. "Yeah, give us a few minutes."
The two slid out of the booth and walked towards the middle of the dance floor, surrounded by drunk bodies as they all danced. They weaved their way through the bodies, clinging to each other.
"We shouldn't leave her alone." Kaia said, placing her hands on Claire's waist. Claire didn't respond, but instead, kissed Kaia hardly on the lips. Claire cupped her face in her hands, soaking in the moment. Kaia's hands slipped down to her hips, the two swaying to the music. The girl closed her eyes as Claire kissed her jaw, leaving a trail down her neck as she pulled her closer.
"How long has it been?" Claire asked. "No Jody to ruin it."
Kaia sighed as she kissed Claire again. They were lost in the music and the lust, unaware of their surroundings.
Kaia smiled as she pulled away. "I want to, seriously. But Astra is probably looking for us."
Claire scoffed and only nodded. "Fine. But you owe me."
Hand-in-hand, the two turned towards the booth, only to notice that it was empty. Claire scanned the room, noticing the woman as she was being dragged towards the exit. Four men lead the way as they reached the exit. Claire pulled her knife out of her pocket as she pushed through the crowd.
When they got outside, they could hear Astra as the woman screamed to be freed. They hurried around to the back of the bar, noticing the grey van that was still running.
"Hey, jack ass!" Claire shouted. The large man had Astra in his arms, holding her as he carried her towards the van. She tried to break free, kicking and thrashing around in his hold.
"Claire, what do I do!" Astra shouted. Claire watched as the man raised a pistol and immediately slammed the butt into Astra's temple, knocking her unconscious.
"Stop them."
Claire and Kaia ran forward and tried to fight their way to the van as he shoved Astra inside. Kaia was shoved harshly to the ground, and Claire swung her knife forward, nicking one's arm. The man grunted in pain, but as he swung his fist into her jaw, she stumbled back. She tried to block, but he swung his leg and kicked her directly into the arm. Claire shouted in pain, falling to the ground.
Kaia tried to get up. "No!"
As the van sped off towards the highway, Claire hurried and pulled her phone out of her coat pocket, zooming in before capturing a photo of the license plate.
Kaira grabbed Claire's hand and pulled her onto her feet. "Now what?!"
She inhaled as she pulled up Sam's contact.
"We have to tell Sam."
