With the end of school not to far away a lot of things were happening; finals, championships weren't too far away and the bloody formal. And naturally the formal was all anyone was talking about. With Lucy Saucer expelled for good everyone was now looking for a new queen bee and Maria was only too happy to take her place.
Last week my mother and I went to the hearing held by the school board. Being faced by Lucy again, I could see that the weeks of investigation and court hearings had been taking a toll on her and I found it really hard to not feel sorry for her. As she stared at me, almost a purple shade underneath her eyes which was poorly covered with make up, she mouthed the words 'I'm sorry' to me and I gave a slight nod. I held a grim look on my face through out the entire thing and when I was asked to speak I said:
"What happened to me was monstrous and shouldn't happen to any student but what's done is done and no one in this room can change it."
She was expelled despite the pleas from her father and mother and the hatred look they passed over me when it was sentenced was almost frightening. Her mother cried, her father stormed off in a rage while Lucy nodded as if expecting this to happen.
So now everyone looked to Maria to lead the cheer squad and to rule the school. And the poor girl was not doing a good job. People walked all over her, ignored her remarks as she tried to cause drama and whenever she told someone to do something no one would really listen. The cheerleaders looked shit at the sporting events and they weren't contenders for the cheer nationals anymore supposedly. They were up shit creek and Maria had left her paddle at home.
All conversation was starting to revolve around formal, who was going with who and who was wearing what. As much as there were divisions and cliques in school Mia added all the girls on to a page on Facebook and everyone made a pac, including a pissed Maria, that so we all don't clash with dresses, we would all post a picture of our dress so that no one doubles up. Maria's comment was that if she wanted to wear a dress then no one else would wear it.
Charlie had the abortion and the few days afterwards were extremely emotional for her, so much so she faked sick and stayed home. I had spoke to Sam and he said even though it wasn't his body, it was still his kid and he was upset. He had wanted to keep the child to do right by her but when she explained the reasons why she didn't want to have it, he understood. When she came back to school I hugged her, gave her a kiss on the cheek and told her that I'd always be there for her.
After seeing what it put them through that night I went to the store, bought a box containing one hundred condoms and placed it on my brothers bed. He hasn't asked about it to either me or mum.
Finals were coming up so quickly that it makes my head was spinning with the amount of cramming I needed to do. Mia the stress head was constantly at my house to practice, to work on our recital and would get really worked up so much that Lachlan would have to come in and calm her down.
Charlie was that confident and always so sure of herself in all things she did so whenever finals came around, she would always be the one who was relaxed and calm. Sam would follow her lead after all he wasn't a dumb jock, he was quite intelligent. Jacob was the stress head along with Mia, constantly asking questions always ask us for help and it gets worse when we tell them to calm down because he loses his mind.
But he isn't the only one though.
"See the guy in the white t-shirt and blue cardigan?" Charlie whispered to me and I nodded, "He is in my human health development class and he failed a practise exam and went absolutely nuts. Lost his marbles and Mr. Rickon had to get him out of the classroom."
"I heard something about that from Lachlan but I thought it was just a rumour going around or at least was exaggerated." I mused as I looked at him and the boy looked up his eyes looking frightened and scared as he quickly gathered his bag from his locker and walked away into the boys toilet.
