The two of them were silent for the entire trip. It wasn't long before they reached the Hydra base and Steve silently knocked out the sentry guard.
Katie hummed softly to herself as they snuck around the base trying to find where the prisoners were being kept.
Katie turned to Steve when she saw a group of men being herded down some stairs. "Shorty!" she whispered, pointing. Steve hoisted his shield and approached the guard.
With a soft thud, the guard fell unconscious. Katie held out her hand and Steve tossed her the keys. She glitched down the stairs to start unlocking the doors but all of the soldiers were distracted by Steve trying to drag the guard away.
"And who are you?" one of the men asked.
Steve took a deep breath and continued to tug on the guard. "I'm Captain America."
"He used to be a little tiny guy," Katie commented jokingly, opening one of the cells. All of the men jumped and turned to her.
The man who asked Steve who he was spluttered. "Uh... you're a girl."
Katie cocked her head as Steve jogged down the stairs. "Yeah, so?" She inserted the keys into the lock on his cell.
"I-I'm just a little surprised. I wasn't expecting-"
"That's good," Steve interrupted. "I'm looking for James Barnes."
Katie nodded, "Yeah he's looking for James Barnes. You tell him that, I'm going to help everyone else."
"We're saving everyone?"
"Why wouldn't we?" Katie asked glaring at the idiot. "That would be mean."
He shrugged and she scoffed turning to the last cell.
Steve got the information he needed and began to give instructions to the soldiers. "Alright, we need you to get out of here, but if you want, give them heck on the way out."
"With pleasure, Cap'n," one of the soldiers replied.
Steve nodded and exited the room quickly. Katie quickly followed after him.
Katie summoned her sword and shield. "Alright, what's the plan, Shorty?"
Steve jumped. He glared at Katie. "No. You're not coming with me."
Katie rolled her eyes. "Yes, I am. I actually have combat training and spent my entire life fighting. I'm coming with, capisce?"
Steve glanced down angrily. "Fine." He turned and continued down the hall.
The two ran through the twisting black corridors of the Hydra base. They searched everywhere, and when a soldier came upon their path, Katie and Steve quickly took them out.
Katie adjusted the hat that Steve gave her after knocking out a soldier who had been standing guard near the door where Steve's friend was being held.
"Bucky?" Steve called into the room, Katie facing the hallway, watching for any threats.
There was a soft groan from inside, and Katie heard someone reply softly to Steve but couldn't quite hear what he said.
Katie perked up when she heard the sound of boots clanking along the metal floor. She popped her head into the room where she saw Steve helping up a very disheveled-looking guy with black hair and the beginnings of a beard. "I hate to break up the tender reunion, but if we want to get out, now would be a perfect time."
The man, whom Katie presumed was Bucky, squinted his eyes at her. "Is that my hat?"
Katie shrugged, "Probably, but that's beside the point, we've got to get out of here!"
