The first sense that came back to Katie was her thoughts. And her first thought was:
This is way too comfortable to be in the underworld.
Katie's hearing returned with a sudden ringing sound, then feeling returned to her fingers which were caressing a soft quilt underneath. Then she opened her eyes. She flinched in the bright light. Yeah, this definitely isn't the underworld.
She sat up and tried to take in her surroundings. She first took stock of herself. She still had her camp necklace fastened around her neck, but she wasn't wearing her Lady Lightning outfit. She was wearing instead a pair of black sweatpants and a white t-shirt with a strange emblem on it.
The room was small, its walls painted a bland tan color. There was the small bed Katie was still sitting on and a desk under a window looking out over a New York street, but it was quiet. Katie couldn't hear any talking or shouting. No engines running, just dead silence.
The door opened with a squeak and startled Katie to the point of falling to the ground.
"Oof!" she exclaimed as she pulled herself off the floor. She turned her attention to the wide-eyed lady who had just walked into the room. "Hello. How's it going?"
"Are you alright?" the woman asked.
Katie dismissed her concern with a wave of her hand and sat down crisscrossed applesauce. "Oh, I'll be fine. Question: Uh, how long was I sleeping? I don't remember..." she trailed off, trying to remember the last thing that happened to her. It all came flooding back, with a force that knocked her back into the wall.
"Ma'am!" the woman exclaimed and jogged forward, "Are you sure you're fine?!"
"I was with Steve," Katie said, mostly to herself as the woman helped her up onto the bed. "Where is he?"
"Well, uh, I...uh. You were asleep for a really long time and I think Steve is next door," the woman stuttered out, clearly concerned for Katie. Her hands were on Katie's shoulders and she was glancing at the back of Katie's head to look for an injury.
Katie swatted her hand away, "I'm FINE." Katie stood and walked over to the door. "Thank you, random lady, I don't know but looks suspiciously like Peggy. I'm going to see Shorty."
"No, Ma'am! You're not supposed to leave the room!"
Katie ignored her and stepped out into... something. She wasn't entirely sure what to make of it but it definitely didn't match the room she just stepped out of.
She turned around to look at the room but she noted that it was just a free-standing box in the middle of a large warehouse-like room.
"Huh."
A sudden crash caused Katie to yelp and turn back around but jumped back as a soldier of some sort flew through the air in front of her.
"Gods of Olympus!" Katie cursed as even more soldiers appeared chasing after a very put-out Steve.
"Got to go!" Steve shouted as he sprinted past her.
Katie threw her hands in the air and followed after him, "What on earth did you do?!"
Steve sprinted out of a door, "I'll explain later!"
The two ran, even though Katie was clueless as to why they were running. Well, maybe it might be that the nice lady was lying, but why Steve was in such a rush, she didn't know.
Buildings blurred together as the two ran. But Katie couldn't pinpoint where they were. True, Katie hadn't been to many places, but she would think she would know if there was a city with buildings as tall as Olympus itself.
