The sky outside was starting to drizzle large drops of rain from gray clouds blocking out the stars. There was a slight chill in the air as Steve and Katie rushed out of the dim theater and hurried to find shelter.

Katie laughed as rain splashed on her nose and soaked her yellow and black dress through. Steve laughed back and had one hand raised over his head in a poor attempt to keep the rain off of him while his other hand gripped Katie's.

They ducked inside a small diner with cozy green booths and checkered floors.

A waitress smiled from behind a counter, "Hello. You two can find a seat, I'll get you guys a menu in just a second."

Katie and Steve thanked her and sat at a corner booth.

Giggling, Katie ran her wet hands through her equally wet hair. She started to try to flick the water off of her.

"Stop it!" Steve teased trying to dodge the water droplets. "You're making me even wetter!"

"Calm yourself, Shorty," Katie teased back as the waitress handed them a couple of menus. "It's just water."

Steve chuckled as he scanned his menu. He felt someone's eyes on him and he glanced over his menu at Katie who immediately averted her eyes back to her menu.

Katie glanced back up to see Steve was still watching her. "So did you like the movie?" she asked, trying to sound casual, suddenly feeling a wave of nerves wash over her.

"It was definitely not just for kids, that's for sure," Steve replied with a shy chuckle.

The waitress came back and took their orders and menus. Katie fidgeted with her hands and fought the feeling to reach out and grab Steve's hand.

She started brainstorming things to ask him instead of this awkward silence that had fallen between them. She suddenly felt warmth touch her hand and she looked up maybe a little too fast- as Steve intertwined his fingers in hers.

Katie felt heat rush to her cheeks and she glanced away from Steve who sighed.

"To be absolutely completely honest, I have no idea what I'm doing," Steve commented truthfully. "I've never tried to do something like this."

Katie glanced over at him, and grinned softly, "I-I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing either. Or what my brain's thinking to be honest. It keeps stumbling over words, and uh..." she felt a new wave of embarrassment crash over her and she stared down at the one hand she had in her lap. "I should stop talking. That's another thing that happens, I just ramble."

Steve smiled at her and gripped her hand a little tighter, "It's fine, Katie." His comforting grin turned into a mischievous smirk as he leaned forward a bit. "Now you have a fun nickname for me, which I sincerely hate, but I don't have a nickname for you."

Katie groaned and dropped her head onto the table, "If you start calling me Kat too, I will just drop dead right here."

"Okay. Let's see, you've got your lightning. But I can't call you Lady Lightning-"

"Because that's what everyone else is calling me," Katie interrupted.

"So what about 'Lightning Girl?'" Steve proposed.

Katie nodded her thanks to the waitress as she handed Katie her cheeseburger and Steve his hot dog.

"No," Katie stated plainly, taking a bite into the greasy burger.

Steve cocked his head in confusion, his mouth paused around his food. "Why not?"

Katie swallowed her mouthful of food and replied, "Let's take my nickname for you: 'Shorty'. It pokes fun at you seeing how you're taller than me and you used to be small. 'Lightning Girl' just describes me. You see the problem?"
