Luke's POV

The water splashed across my face when I dropped the cloth into it. I glared at the sink, as if to make it feel bad for getting me wet. I picked the rag up again, much to my distain, and began wiping down the rest of the counters. I don't understand why we constantly washing everything when they're not used.

I huffed and threw the rag back into the sink.

"I see you're happy to be back." Calum smiled and plopped down at the bar next to me. I rolled my eyes at the boy.

"It's just that I-" I began before he cut me off.

"No no no. Let me guess." The tan boy cleared his throat and raises his voice at least 3 octaves, "I want to be with Ashtoooonnn. He's my liiiifffeeeee. Oh my gosh his eyes are so beautiful and his abs are so sexy-"

I punched Calum's arm a little too hard and he yelped. "Ow." He grumbled while glowering at me.

"I've never said that. And I don't sound like a 10 year old girl." I scoffed. Calum shrugged and laughed. We sat there in a silence, both flipping through our phones mindlessly.

It had been a few days since Ashton and I had fixed everything, and it's all been perfect. I was becoming a little bit more confident around him, although I sill have yet to break in his walls he still has built up. In all my past years of being filled with neglectance, the hazel eyed punk has managed to make me feel wanted...needed even. Our few past days have been filled with soft touches and electrified feelings.

"This is boring." announced Calum.

"Sucks." I chuckled.

"We should ditch. No one's going to come in."

"Yeah! And then we can be fired!" I dragged sarcastically. His dark eyes narrowed at me, raising his fingers up to flick my cheek. I winced and stuck my tongue out at him, rubbing the now slightly sore spot.

"Chuck would never find out. It's not like he comes to check on his own damn business." The kiwi boy snapped, referring to the owner of the diner.

I sighed and shrugged, "Fine."

Calum let out a 'whoop' and raced to the back to grab his things. I followed him, changing out of my bland uniform. Scooping up the keys I shuffled to the front door and locked it, then shutting all the blinds in the windows. I started to stack the chairs up on the table when Calum grabbed my wrist, stopping me.

"C'mon Lucas, just leave it. We'll be back." He urged. I let him drag me towards the back door and out into the bright sun. I squinted against the sudden light, stumbling behind a liberated Calum.

"Where are even going to go?" I coughed as we passed a dumpster filled alley. "We're going to get fired and die."

"All you do is complain, Hemmings." I stuck my tongue out at him even though he had his back turned.

"I want ice cream." Calum chirped, dragging me towards the park. An ice cream sat near the center, the line was empty since all the kids were in school. It truly was a beautiful day. My pale skin was trying to soak up the rare rays of the warm sun.

My best friend ordered us both a vanilla ice cream cone and we strolled down the side walk, licking away.

This sweet silence brought back way too many memories. My oldest brother used to take me out of school when he was in town. We would go wherever I wanted, and it was either the movies or ice cream then the arcade.

I never knew what I did wrong to make my own family despise me. I don't understand why they would turn their backs on me just because I liked boys more than girls? I've somehow managed to complicate everyone's lives to the point of complete neglection. My life had eventually lost so much meaning. Like, what was the point of struggling through apartment rent and basically doing nothing everyday?
