Trust is hard to earn nowadays, no matter what you did somehow, someway that trust would crumble and burn. Everyone Tommy had trusted showed him that, not saying he himself was ruled out from that. He knows he’s given others trust and he knows he’s destroyed it as well.

But he can’t trust anyone, no matter how big they apologies or try to be better. He just- he can’t trust them. Not when he knows that at any second they’d give him up for a stick and bread. Not when he knows they’d happily let his life end if it meant they’d be free of him for once.

And that distrust gets worse when exile happens, no one bothers to save him. No one bothers to point out the horrible things they notice or how close he was to crumbling. No one blinks twice when Dream tells him he’s fine, when Dream says no one can visit.

No one saves him and in the end, he saves himself.

Of course things go down from there, The days with Techno that had him laughing and screaming turns into a day of tears and betrayal. Doomsday and the Disc war, two days that go down in his worst memories.

The prison and Wilbur’s revival, of course he was very happy about his brother figure coming back just as he was incredibly upset by it. He loves Wilbur he swears, but he doesn’t trust him nor does he really want to talk with the man knowing if he did they’d talk about all the bad things.

So at first Tommy’s contempt with avoiding any of the three people he saw as family, if Phil’s out in the general area Tommy’s magically out in the woods far away collecting wood for Tubbo. “No I haven’t seen him, he left earlier.” Tubbo will say if Phil ever asked where he was.

If Techno felt daring and came to check out the latest builds, Tommy hides away in the mansion up on the first floor. Techno won’t come in, he was too distrusting of that. So Tommy stays there until he knows the pig is gone back into the cold that he belonged in.

Wilbur is the hardest to avoid, but he works with what he has. If Wilbur’s walking around Tommy turns around and walks far away. He ignores any shout of his name, he avoids the area where Wilbur’s usually at just as he avoids where the man lives. If Wilbur decides to make his day harder by chasing him, he brings out an ender pearl and uses all of them until he knows he is far away where Wilbur won’t find him.

He avoids them like he does with everyone else. They leave him be for the most part but he knows that if they truly wanted to, they’d get him to talk in no time. He knows they're waiting it out, waiting for him to get comfortable enough to fall back into a normal routine again. Yet at first he’s ready to hold strong and never speak with them again.

That is until sirens are blaring, Dream’s standing on the grass staring at him before he runs away. Techno not realizing Tommy was right there, looking at him with a heart-breaking look. Suddenly he’s running for his life as a sword swipes at the back of his street, he’s running for safety when he hears Dream cackling in his ear taunting him for all his worth as he cries and screams for help.

Suddenly he sees familiar fences, he feels that sense of home rattling in his chest as he darts for them screaming for Phil who had been outside. He runs and he runs until he collapses into the man's arms begging and pleading, crying as he’s pushed behind the older who raises a bow ready to destroy whatever had hurt him.

“No one’s there Tommy, you’re okay. No one’s gonna hurt you in these gates.” Phil whispers softly as Tommy cries and cries into his robe.
