The hotel is a gateway/passage way. The gate opens in a time that nobody could schedule. Creatures and different horrors pass through the gateway, disturbing guests and staff, but the staff handled the place well despite the crawling anomalies and spirits roaming around. High level threats from other-worldly creatures are ignored and was dealt with by following the rules and guidelines that keep every staff and guests safe.

The hotel is named PassageWay Hotel. A literal call to what it is. Despite it being a 5 Star Hotel, it still is a very quiet place and doesn't look like its title at all. The hotel serves both alive and dead guests.

The story is told through Kelly's point of view, as she and her twin sister experience creepy and terrifying anomalies.

After her sister is taken into the portal and sealing itself, satisfied with its sacrifice, Kelly is left horrified.

There were dozens of scenes pointing out that Jamie would be taken as a "sacrifice" to the portal. 

*The sudden attack on the basement was an attempt to drag her to the portal.

*The bleeding ear is a sign that she was the one the spirits chose. The hotel staff they called was astonished when the twins mentioned her bleeding ears, but not her nose. They did state that it was a normal occurrence. This was a sign for them to lay off the guest and not help them in any way, since the spirits have already chosen them. 

*Deaths/missing people within the hotel is what keeps the portal closed for years. No one could count or guess how long the portal closes or opens. It activates whenever it liked, and often caused trouble for most people.

*The other world is actually a rabbit hole. Where there are plenty of "doors" is where creatures from different kinds of horrid imaginations come from and out to the Human World. Because of Jamie's fall, different kinds of herself/ alternate selves of her are in each of these "doors"/ or worlds.
