Young horror writer, Mona Ichabod Quiboc shows dislike towards her father after he comments about the paragraph she wrote. Subtly telling that her parents lately had been considering divorce, but when her father took her to a fishing trip, an accident occurs and Mona drowns. This drew the line, and her mother filed a divorce. On the car ride home, Mona falls asleep. She wakes up to find herself in a bog. The car jammed in mud and accumulating dust with no sight of her father found anywhere.

She ventures the bog land in hopes for answers and to find her father, when she comes across a tree that resembles a human spine, flowering bright, red flowers that bubbled a honey-like substance. Before she could investigate it, her attention is taken by a creature with a head that resembles the same red flower on the tree. Its human-like casualty as it walks towards her is unsettling. Before it could attack, Mona is pulled away and the creature explodes in a way to infect its surroundings with its ooze.

Mona meets a boy named Orrin, who wears a hollowed pig head and broken english. The two starts off roughly before getting along. When Mona gets infected, Ori amputates her hand where she had been bitten and ties her underneath the cabin. The next morning, Ori is surprised to see Mona still uninfected. The stump on her hand fully healed, and a poppy growing out of her skin.

Orrin sexually assaults Mona, which she was able to get out of before anything else happens. Disgusted and slowly losing her sanity, Mona begins to get paranoid, while her hate and fear for Orrin. When she spots a blue beacon a few walks out of the house, she ventures to investigate it while Orrin is completely upset about the idea.

Before she could investigate further,  deer-like demon pins Orrin down, before pushing Mona to the beacon, but not before pinning a thorn sized, amethyst-like jewel in her chest.

Mona wakes up in the hospital and she is told that she was in a car accident with her father, and has been in a coma for five months and a half. Believing everything must have been a dream, she opted to write down her experience in the bog.

In the Epilogue, A triangle-headed Entity explains to her that the bog she resided in for weeks with Orrin was the Spirit Realm, but it had been infiltrated lately by demons. The demons being the red flowers and its ooze.

The other spirits that came in contact with the demons, becomes infected "zombies" that walk around the bog land. The Entity reveals that Mona wasn't fully infected because she was still alive in the physical realm. The Deer Demon who was responsible in returning her back to the Physical Realm was actually Orrin's father, and that Orrin is not a spirit, but also an Entity that hasn't been fully developed yet.

The Entity recruits Mona to be their writer, or a prophet for them. They tell her about Orrin's plans in finding her first when he becomes fully developed. In return of being their prophet, the Entity promises to protect Mona and keep Orrin away from her.

Mona agrees to the contract of a Murder God.
