"...which is why it is part of the duties we pledged the moment we entered this institution to assure the order. With this, I am requiring everyone to start our individual responsibilities in our own domains tonight. I know that it is quite late but..."
As Izuku listens to Iida's speech or what Kaminari often dubbed as "closing remarks" in the common area; each word filled with the class representative's integrity is shifted to be part of the background sound when he feels a slight nudge on his shoulder. Jolting slightly at that, he looks to his right and comes face to face with a pair of round brown eyes as warm as the day even if it's actually so late at night.
"Hey, Deku-kun," Uraraka whispers beside him with the warmth of her breath tickling his right cheek. Her voice isn't loud enough but this sudden close distance between them is immediately enough to drown out Iida's still undone speech in his hearing.
"Ye-Yes!" He wanted to let out a "Yes?" but the word stumbles out of his mouth with alertness and a surge of panic with her presence.
Uraraka's definitely one of the closest friends he has. And that applies figuratively and well, literally at the moment. To say that he isn't used to it by now would be a lie. But being used to it doesn't mean that he wouldn't be bearing the same expression again and again; which is a warm face that can't be tamed by a splash of water and a pair of eyes roaming around just to not focus on her.
"Iida-kun's intense as usual," she says giggling with all the joy in the world, which is a huge contrast to the seriousness tremoring with every word, care of their friend. The evening meetings have been increasing and each centered on a different agenda. It seems that their days are just getting busier and busier as they enter their sophomore year.
Izuku slowly relaxes as her eyes focus on Iida who's now talking about "taking the honor of maintenance." He smiles as he watches her stop herself from bursting to one of her lovely fits of laughter.
He's always been used to seeking cause or reason when someone calls his attention. Do they need anything? Did he do something wrong? Do they need help? It's a kneejerk thought. Because Izuku's not sure why someone would talk to him anyway.
But Uraraka, since day one, has just been talking to him about anything under the sun, anything that plays in her mind, even without a particular purpose.
When they first met, she did most (actually all) of the talking cause he just can't believe that someone would exchange words with him.
"Are you okay?"
"It's my Quirk. Sorry for stopping you, but well, it's bad omen to trip and fall."
"This sure is nerve-wracking."
"Good luck to both of us."
Such nice words that he never thought he'd ever hear. So much care from a stranger he just met.
What a nice girl, he thought then.
Izuku blinks, seeing that nice girl right next to him and still talking with him about anything after all this time.
How she invites him to observe their friends, even flaunting to him her newfound skill of predicting when Todoroki would suddenly space out (which he has to admit to be amazing). How she feeds him with random trivia about the stars, the constellations, and different gravitational forces in space since she loves them so much. How she even tells him mundane details like how hard it is for her to get up in the morning.
It's with Uraraka that he first felt what it really means to be viewed as a person. Not as a Quirkless individual. Not as someone who wants to be a hero.
