Sitting at my desk, my phone buzzes beside me, my assistants name lighting the screen. "Carlson," I answer, standing and making my way to the windows, observing the hustle below.
"Carlson, I need a confirmation if you're attending this year's charity ball?"
"Yes, I'll be attending."
"Perfect, and will you be bringing a plus-one? I need to let them know how many guests will be attending."
I glance at the bar area, my eyes finding Rosie at their own accord.
Before I can reply, my assistant continues, "I don't know if you're aware of this, but your father has requested you bring someone along with you."
Damn him. I continue watching Rosie, Elijah was right, she's a natural and has picked this up in no time. "Fine, I'll bring someone."
"Very well," She replies before disconnecting the line.
Running my hands through my hair, I continue glancing to Rosie as I type out a text on my phone.
I move to my desk, and when a knock at the door breaks through the silence a few minutes later, I clear my throat before ordering, "Come in."
Rosie smiles as she walks inside and closes the door behind her, "Someone said you wanted to see me?"
"That's correct," I mutter, moving to stand. "Take a seat," I reply, pointing towards the sofa.
I watch her as she slowly settles into the seat, balancing on the edge, she runs her hands down her thighs and starts wringing her fingers together in her lap. I settle into the sofa beside her, my thigh brushing against hers.
"Is there something wrong?" She asks, her tone anxious.
I relax back into the sofa, draping my hand up and behind her, resting it onto the top of the sofa. Her gaze flickers towards it before landing back on me. I watch the goose bumps gather on her skin, and my guess, she's not cold.
I keep my gaze trained in on her as I speak. "I have a proposition for you."
She looks startled, tipping her head to the side ever so slightly in question.
"There's a ball coming up, a charity ball and I would like you to attend with me," I reply, watching her expression closely.
"A ball?" She looks surprised but excited.
I nod but remain silent.
She remains silent herself, glancing down at the coffee table, she's clearly in deep thought.
As I go to reply, she cuts me off. "I'm not sure."
"Not sure?" I reply.
She looks back towards me, "Yes, I mean for a start, I don't have anything to wear."
