Response to Poem 5

Falling asleep is a whirlwind

Hope is like a wave in the sea

Crashing up against golden shores

Sometimes life builds us breakwaters

Structures in our self-sanctioned sea

Preventing the waves

From hitting sand

Some of us have less

There are times where they crumble

There are times they are rebuilt

And though I hate the word unique

Being different

Is what makes us human

Our every breath is taken differently

And that's our twisted beauty

That helps us live on as we do

So your breakwaters

Have sunken away

You do not sustain as many halters

As other people do

Good!

Indulge in your greatness,

Write in that blessed water,

Call yourself human!
