Response to Poem 11

1 0 1

There's a waking word

And even though I hate it so much

I cannot deny

What good it has done

What is a failure for you?

Something you can just

Leave behind with but a brush

Of your hand?

Something you strive to learn from?

Something so devastating

That the idea of death pales

In comparison?

Take a deep breath

Those bitter feelings

Of self-hatred and disappointment

Are not meant to be swallowed

It will be okay

Shallow words, I know

But it's the forgotten truth

The storm will blow over

Your heart will have enough time

To heal

One day,

You'll realise you can stop running

And that the finish line

Lies where you want to put it

It will all be okay

Try as you might

If nothing goes your way

Then remember,

You have succeeded before

You have succeeded many times,

In fact

And they outweigh your failures

No matter how drastically

How low you have sunk

There is no failure

That will tip this scale

Take a deep breath

The next challenge is also

On the horizon

And this time you will clear it

The world is cold and dark

It will not leave any stragglers

Nor does it give second chances

And so what?

Sometimes it doesn't matter

Just stride forward

Break your own mold

And reach for the stars

We climb this twisted wall

Many people stand

Only to be pushed off

The stones we grab for survival

Do not come at us easily

If your fingers slip

So be it,

Reach for the next one
