"Wake up shank." A male voice casts above me.

I groan and quickly awake myself, seeing a dark-haired bo-

"Minho. What the hell?" I rub my eyes, sitting, hearing rain pattering.

He shushes me and almost drags me towards the green grass.

I fall flat on my face because getting pulled out of a warm bloody bed was not expected.

"Get up." Minho demandes, grabbing my hand.

"What time is it?" I grunt out, standing on my two feet.

"I think it's about 4:30 am, so be quiet." He murmurs narrowing his eyes.

"Why'd you wake me up, then?!" I half-yell yanking his hand off of mine.

"You need a job and since you don't seem to THAT strong I could train you to be a runner." Minho states and I brush him off.

"I'll just be a gardener, it's fine." Rolling my eyes, I turn my back on him and hastily walk away.

He pulls me back and states that I'm going to be a runner by his account.

"Come on I'll help you be strong and fast." I groan and join him on a run around the glade.

*
"Minho! I can't do this anymore. I have shit endurance." I yell at him from a distance as he approaches me from a length.

"Y/n. Just take deep breaths and or keep your hands up side by side your chest." He pants, tapping my shoulder to keep going.

I yelp, carrying on running around. I do what I was told, keeping my hands close to the sides of my chest and taking deep, hearty breaths.

Closing my eyes for more than a second and I'm off.

"Y/n! Oh my shucking god. Wait!" Yells from Minho, who's the 'fastest' runner slows down, with his hands on his knees, panting.

*
"Wanna do a race?" Challenging Minho, taking a sip of my drink.

He nods hesitantly.

"What are they doing?" Chuck asks the gladers, eating his breakfast.

We both create a line from the breakfast hut towards the stone wall door.

I line myself up with the starting line, bending down with one hand on my knee and Minho repeats my movements.

"Ready, Set, GO!!"

My legs work fast, pacing the green terrain. Keeping my arms side by side my chest and panting my deep breaths into the air.

I could hear Minho pacing behind me, encouraging me to run rapidly faster.

Laughing as I cross the finish line, just before Minho does.

"Dammit." He mutters, laying across the wet, green grass.

"Bloody hell." Gally states, crossing his arms with a smug grin.

"Rethinking not making y/n a runner, Gally?" Alby conveys, crossing his arms with a laugh.

"She should be a runner." Thomas asserts.

Gally gives him a deadly look.

"I think I want to be a runner." I admit to Minho, laying next to him.

He laughs, shaking my hand.

*
"Alright, everyone raise your hand if you think that y/n should be a runner?" Alby quizzes everyone in a glade meeting.

Minho, Thomas, Zart, Alby, Newt, Winston and three more boys raise their hands.

"Alright, so raise your hands if you think she shouldn't be a runner."

Chuck, Gally and two other boys raise their hands.

I look at Chuck in a confused expression and he looks back at him with a light frown.

"I don't want you to get hurt." He whimpers, putting his hands by his side.

"She won't, she's with me and Ben." Minho cuts in, feeling confident with his answer.

Gally just stands there not saying anything with his head bowed down.

"Anything to argue against, Gally?" Newt sarcastically queries him, leaning against the wall.

Gally shakes his head and crosses his arms, avoiding eye contact with me.

"Since she seems pretty much ready, so she starts in half an hour." Alby conveys, ending the meeting.

Everyone had left, but Gally and Minho were the last ones to leave.

He pulls Minho back into the hut and closes the door.

"Don't let y/n get hurt and if you do, I'll chop your cock off and feed it to the grievers and watch you bleed to death. We good?" Gally demands.

"Got a little crush there, Gally?" Minho laughs hysterically.

Gally throws him out of the hut, rolling his eyes.

*
"You ready?" Minho questions me as I grab a small bag on my back, filled with food, just in case.

"I think so." I hear the clanking, screeching noises of the mazes door opening.

I sigh, turning my head around, seeing everyone wave us goodbye as we enter the maze.

Running at the same speed as Minho and Ben, we map the walls, leaving traces of blood against the cold, stone wall.

My heart skips a beat from hearing the shriek of the grievers getting closer.

"Stay close." Minho declares from beside me.

"Y/n leave your blood near those vines over there." He points to the long, shiny vines that shone against the dark clouds above.

As I make a small cut against my thumb, I trace the 'wall' or so I thought.

"Y/n." Ben stutters, backing slowly.

"What?" I mutter quietly at him, twisting my head as I wipe my blood.

A deafening shrill cry erupted from behind me.

I clench my eyes shut, hoping it's not what I think it is.

"Y/n. Move." Minho repeats, slowly walking back, keeping eye contact with me.

I turn my head towards where the shrill had came from.

Bug-like eyes came in contact with me.

"Nice bug." I whimper, strutting backwards hastily. The griever lets out a raucous cry.

I run for my life with the boys split from each other and myself.

Of COURSE, the griever chases after me.

My hands were down the sides of my chest and I had clenched my fists, so it'll be easier for me to cut through the cold air. My breath was pushed back into my face and my teeth chattering from the roaring behind me.

I was finally pulled away into a dark, stuffy corner. I look up and it was..
