white canvas
steady hand
he's had a lot of practice
the whole vision he has planned
for every black stroke
he paints his thoughts
as the paint starts to soak
showing what he has lost

for every green splash
he paints his truth
afraid you'll think it's trash
he connects to his roots
and when he's finished
he feels proud yet scared
he knows they are cynic
is it as he feared?

because as he lays his art for display
he lays out a part of himself
his low confidence will remain
nothing new
what else

they look at his art
nervous as they hold the frame
and they say
our eyes don't see the same

they look at his art
they hand it back to him
he starts to fall apart
