I couldn't sleep. I had no idea what time it was. I was just staring at the cave ceiling above me. I sighed and slowly got out of bed. I walked toward the big rock in front of the exit. I sighed again. I walked towards it and put my hands on it. I started pushing. Not that I was strong enough, but I still tried. Suddenly, the rock rolled away on itself. I happily smiled and walked out of the cave. Even though it was freezing outside, I sat down on the snowy ground and looked up at the moon and stars. I thought about my mother and my sister. My mother always took me out of bed to watch the stars, if I couldn't sleep. I missed them. Not long and I would be on my way back... at least, that's what I have been telling g myself. A sudden breeze pulled me out of my thoughts and a chill ran down my spine. I now realised how cold it actually was. I got up and went back inside. The rock immediately rolled back in front of the cave.
I walked back to the bedroom and saw Luna sitting up in her bed, looking worried.
"Where were you!?" She whispered. I smiled at her and sat down next to her.
"I was outside. I couldn't sleep, so I wanted to take my mind of things." I said, looking down at the ground.
"Do... do you miss your family?" Luna asked. I weakly smiled and nodded.
"I don't have a family. They abandoned me when I was a baby. I grew up in a human orphanage. I never got a new family." Luna said. I looked up at her. I smiled at her again.
"Well. You have a family now. You got me and Aeryn. And when we get back, I am sure my mother will welcome you into our family with open arms." I said. Luna happily smiled at me and gave me a hug.
"Ughhh. Please, be quiet, I'm trying to sleep." Aeryn said in a sleepy voice. Luna and I laughed about it. But than, Aeryn threw her pillow at us. She gave us an angry look and turned back around. I said Luna goodnight and got back in my bed."Wake up, young Zain! The ladies are already up and we have a long day of training ahead of us!"
I opened my eyes to Ixeors smiling face. I sheepishly looked around and rubbed my head. I sat up in my bed and looked at Ixeor. He was still smiling. He then pushed me out of my bed and walked back to the 'main room'. I got up from the ground and tiredly walked after him. Aeryn handed me a piece of bread. I sat down at one of the chairs against a wall and calmly ate my bread.I had just finished it when Ixeor pulled me out of my chair.
"No time to waste, young Zain! I have a feeling that a lot of things will depend on you. And with out any control, you might put us all in danger, my young friend. So, hurry to the training room." Ixeor placed his hand on the wall again and walked in as soon as the wall had moved away. I was still tired, but his words had woken me up. I rushed towards the training room and got ready.
"Now, young Zain, we shall do something different than we did yesterday. Today, I shall explain to you how to control it, and than we shall train that. Let us begin" Ixeor said. He looked at me with his serious face.
"Listen carefully, Rohan. You must give this explanation your fullest attention. If you do not, and you miss something, that might end up fatal. First, you must concentrate on what element you want to use. You must do that in the way you, and only you, find the most comfortable way of concentrating." Ixeor explained. I was a bit overwhelmed by what he said, especially by the part where he said my name. He had never called me by my name. I quickly remembered I needed to concentrate. I closed my eyes and took a few deep breaths.
'Tell me, young Zain, what element are you planning on using at this point?" I heard Ixeor say.
"Earth." I whispered. I took a few more deep breaths.
"Very well. Now, you must picture what you want to do with this element. You must picture and clearly see it in your mind." I heard Ixeor walking around me. I heard some dragging noises.
"What do you want to do with your Earth element?" Ixeor asked. I took one last deep breath.
"I want to attack someone." I said. I heard some more dragging noises. The noises stopped right in front of me.
"And as last step, you must do exactly what you pictured yourself doing."
I stretched my arms. I moved them around each other and aimed my hands at the thing Ixeor dragged in front of me. I felt the ground under me shake. I than heard a loud bang, like something fell to the ground. I heard Ixeor's excited claps. I didn't dare to open my eyes yet, so I waited until Ixeor said something.
"Haha! Great job, young Zain! You have just knocked out this training dummy!" Ixeor laughed happily. I quickly opened my eyes. A big smile grew on my face. I turned to Ixeor and he proudly looked at me. I did it.
"Well, don't waste any time, young Zain! We cannot lose this great rhythm! Again!" Ixeor said. The next few time weren't as successful as the first one. But they were all with different elements. I think I have controlled Earth already. Only three more elements to go.
