A week had passed so quickly.
'Such lavish dresses...'
Hennesse stared at the new dresses that Devonne had brought back. She raised the hem of the dress, feeling the texture of the expensive fabric. Devonne had brought her uncountable expensive gifts since she was brought to his castle.
'I still remember his words from then so clearly. Did he not say that these kinds of dresses do not suit me?'
'....'
'Then why is he giving these to me?' She frowned.
Hennesse let go of the fabric, making the hem drop to the marble floor. She turned around with a blank expression, unfazed.
"How is it, darling? Do you like it?" He delicately wrapped his arms around Hennesse, hugging her from behind. Devonne sounded very delighted as he asked.
"It's nice, but I am quite unsure whether I like it." She answered.
He raised his head. "Is it perhaps not to your liking?"
"Such lavish dresses do not suit me."
He stiffened upon hearing her words. It was the same words that he had told her three years ago, when he treated her badly.
"What do you mean, darling?" He frowned as he reached for her hands.
"Everything suits you! You look beautiful regardless of what you wear." He assured.
"If ever, clothes are more beautiful when worn by you." Devonne tenderly tucked a hefty strand of her hair behind her ears as he spoke.
"But... Whenever you give me such expensive dresses... the sound of someone telling me that I do not suit them keeps ringing in my head... It has been bothering me the entire week..." Hennesse said.
Devonne's heart throbbed upon hearing the words that left her lips.
"Darling... please don't listen to such nonsensical words. You are beautiful in anything, even more beautiful in lavish clothing." He said.
"Did you just say I'm not beautiful in normal clothing?" She frowned.
"N-No..! You're beautiful in anything, was what I meant..! You make anything beautiful, rather!"
"...."
"That's why..." Devonne trailed as he raised hand to her face.
"From now on, please don't think that it doesn't suit you..." He spoke so softly as he tenderly caressed her cheek.
Hennesse fell speechless. She wanted to scowl in that moment.
'Why is he acting so affectionate? Is this another one of his acts?'
"My lord, dinner is ready." The servant knocked outside their bedroom door.
"Shall we go, Inesse?" He turned to her.
"Alright..."
Hennesse and Devonne sat across each other as they ate in silence. More so, it was only Hennesse that was silent, while Devonne continuously tried to start a conversation with her.
It had almost been an hour yet
She was unmoved. Devonne swallowed a breath as he nervously glanced at her. Each second that passed made his heart more uneasy. He dreaded to be ignored by her.
"Is something the matter, darling? Do you not like the meal perhaps?"
